TO PROVIDE A VARIETY OF CONCERTS AND PERFORMANCES, PROGRAMMING, EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH AND MUSICAL OPPORTUNITIES THROUGHOUT SOUTHEASTERN WISCONSIN THROUGH THE ASSOCIATION AND MAINTENANCE OF A COMMUNITY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
THE RACINE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA IS WISCONSIN'S THIRD OLDEST SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA AND THE OLDEST IN CONTINUOUS OPERATION. ESTABLISHED IN 1932 BY FREDERICK SCHULTE, THE NAME RACINE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA (RSO) WAS ADOPTED IN 1935 AND INCORPORATED AS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION IN 1938. SINCE ITS ESTABLISHMENT, OVER 420 CONCERTS HAVE BEEN PRODUCED IN VENUES SUCH AS MEMORIAL HALL, FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, FESTIVAL HALL, RACINE THEATRE GUILD, SIENNA CENTER, UW-PARKSIDE, CARTHAGE COLLEGE, PUBLIC SCHOOLS, UNCORKT, AND OTHERS. RSO MUSIC EDUCATION PROGRAMS CONTINUE TO CONNECT AND TEACH "STUDENTS" FROM PRE-SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN TO SENIOR CITIZENS. THE RSO HAS CONTINUED TO THRIVE THROUGH THE FINANCIAL SUPPORT PROVIDED BY INDIVIDUALS, CORPORATIONS, FOUNDATIONS, AND GOVERNMENT AGENCIES SUCH AS THE WISCONSIN ARTS BOARD AND NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS. THE 2022-23 SEASON WAS THE RSO'S 91ST AND PRODUCED 10 PUBLIC PERFORMANCES, TWO EDUCATION CONCERTS, AND SCHEDULED ADDITIONAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR THE COMMUNITY.CONCERT PRODUCTIONS ARE THE PRIMARY PROGRAM SERVICE COMPONENT, CONSISTING OF MASTERWORKS SYMPHONY AND CHAMBER ORCHESTRA CONCERTS, AND POPS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA CONCERTS: SIX CONCERTS IN TOTAL WERE PRODUCED, SERVING MORE THAN 1,500 TICKET BUYERS. ADDITIONALLY, THERE IS A SERIES OF CHAMBER MUSIC PERFORMANCES ENTITLED MUSICAL FLIGHTS: FOUR PERFORMANCES WERE PRODUCED, SERVING APPROXIMATELY 200 TICKET BUYERS.EDUCATION PROGRAM SERVICES INCLUDE THE FOURTH GRADE EDUCATION CONCERTS (TWO CONCERTS), WHICH SERVE ALL OF THE RUSD GRADE 4 STUDENTS, AS WELL AS SOME PRIVATE SCHOOLS, AND HOME SCHOOL STUDENTS: MORE THAN 1,300 STUDENTS WERE SERVED THROUGH THIS PROGRAM. THE ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM INTENTIONALLY SERVES A SMALL GROUP OF STUDENTS ALREADY PARTICIPATING IN SCHOOL INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC: SIX SCHOOLS WERE SERVED, EACH WITH TWO-HOUR VISITS, SERVING APPROXIMATELY 300 STUDENTS.
