MILWAUKEE TEACHER EDUCATION CENTER (MTEC) IS A NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT SERVES AS AN INNOVATIVE, PERFORMANCE-BASED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CENTER THAT RECRUITS, PREPARES, SUPPORTS, AND CERTIFIES HIGHLY QUALIFIED TEACHERS FOR WISCONSIN PUBLIC, CHARTER, AND NON-PUBLIC SCHOOLS. WE ARE EQUALLY PROUD OF THE MILWAUKEE ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES ACADEMY (MESA), A MTEC CHARTER SCHOOL EDUCATING CHILDREN IN GRADES K4-8. A DESIGN SCHOOL, MESA PROVIDES THE ONLY URBAN EXPEDITIONARY LEARNING (EL) EXPERIENCE IN MILWAUKEE.

SERVING OVER 400 STUDENTS IN GRADES K4 TO 8, MILWAUKEE ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES ACADEMY (MESA) IS AUTHORIZED BY MILWAUKEE PUBLIC SCHOOLS AS A "NON-INSTRUMENTALITY" CHARTER SCHOOL, RATED 4 OUT OF 5 STARS ON THE WISCONSIN DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION REPORT CARD. IN FACT, MESA SERVES AS A TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FACILITY TO FULFILL MTEC'S MISSION OF TRANSFORMING LEARNING THROUGH EFFECTIVE TEACHING. MTEC WORKS CLOSELY WITH ITS MESA TEACHERS AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS IN THE ON-GOING DEVELOPMENT OF THE TEACHER TRAINING LAB - MESA, FOCUSED ON ADVANCING THE GOAL OF PROVIDING HIGHLY QUALIFIED TEACHERS IN THE MILWAUKEE AREA. MESA OPENED IN 2013 AS A YEAR-ROUND EDUCATION SCHOOL SERVING GRADES K4 TO 5TH GRADE AND GREW ONE GRADE LEVEL EACH YEAR TO 8TH GRADE IN 2016.

DESIGNED FOR AN INDIVIDUAL SEEKING INITIAL LICENSURE, INDIVIDUALS IN A CAREER CHANGE OR RECENT RETIREES DESIRING TO RETURN TO THE WORK FORCE, PARTICIPANTS ARE PROVIDED WITH A HIGHLY QUALIFIED MENTOR TO GUIDE AND SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL GROWTH.
IN 2005, MTEC'S PROFESSIONAL LEARNING SERVICES (PLS) WAS CREATED IN RESPONSE TO THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT NEEDS EXPRESSED BY LEADERSHIP IN AREA SCHOOLS. CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT IS CRITICAL TO THE SUCCESS OF ANY SCHOOL OR DISTRICT. MTEC CURRENTLY PROVIDES THE FOLLOWING AREAS OF SERVICES: FOCUSED INDICATOR TRAINING MODULES ON TOPICS SUCH AS CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE TEACHING, STUDENT ENGAGEMENT AND DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION, STATEWIDE SYMPOSIUMS ON TOPICS SUCH AS READING, MATH, COACHING SUPPORT, AND CUSTOMIZED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR DISTRICTS AND SCHOOLS NATIONALLY.
