TO HONOR PETER RUBIN, AN ASSISTANT PUBLIC DEFENDER FROM MADISON, WI, BY RECOGNIZING AND REWARDING ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS BETWEEN THE AGES OF 5 AND 18 WHO, IN SPITE OF ADVERSITY, ACHIEVE PERSONAL GOALS AT SCHOOL, HOME, OR IN THE COMMUNITY.

THE ORGANIZATION GRANTS SCHOLARSHIPS AND YOUTH ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS TO OR FOR THE BENEFIT OF ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED INDIVIDUALS WHO ACHIEVE PERSONAL GOALS AT SCHOOL, HOME, OR IN THE COMMUNITY. THESE AWARDS ARE USED TO PROVIDE YOUNG PEOPLE WITH BASIC NEEDS AND ACCESS TO PROGRAMS AND SERVICES THAT ARE OUT OF REACH FOR THEIR FAMILIES. EACH RECIPIENT IS ACHIEVING ACADEMICALLY BUT ALSO ARE MAKING SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO THEIR FAMILY, SCHOOL OR COMMUNITY DESPITE POVERTY, DISABILITY, OR PERSONAL HARDSHIP. THE ORGANIZATION UPHOLDS THE BELIEF THAT A KEY TO SUCCESS FOR CHILDREN IS POSITIVE INTERACTION WITH ADULTS. THESE AWARDS REINFORCE EXISTING RELATIONSHIPS WITH SIGNIFICANT ADULTS IN THE CHILD'S LIFE.
