THRIFT STORES: THE SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL OF WAUKESHA COUNTY OPERATES THREE THRIFT STORES. PROFITS GENERATED FROM PURCHASES AT OUR THRIFT STORES ARE USED TO FUND OUR MINISTRY OUTREACH IN WAUKESHA COUNTY. THE THRIFT STORES ALSO PROVIDE NUMEROUS VOLUNTEER AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES AND A PLACE TO DONATE GENTLY USED ITEMS.THROUGH A ST. VINCENT DE PAUL CONFERENCE REFERRAL, THE STORES VOUCHER PROGRAM PROVIDES CLOTHING, HOUSEHOLD ITEMS AND FURNITURE ITEMS AT NO CHARGE TO PEOPLE IN NEED.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS: THE SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL OF WAUKESHA COUNTY COORDINATES COUNTY-WIDE ORGANIZATION OF PARISH CONFERENCES. ST. VINCENT DE PAUL VINCENTIANS LOCATED AT CATHOLIC PARISHES IN WAUKESHA COUNTY RESPOND TO CALLS FOR HELP BY MAKING A HOME VISIT TO PROVIDE TANGIBLE ASSISTANCE ON A PERSON-TO-PERSON BASIS. THE ASSISTANCE CAN INCLUDE EMERGENCY RENT, UTILITIES, FOOD, CLOTHING, HOUSEHOLD GOODS, TRANSPORTATION, AND REFERRAL SERVICES. THE SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL OF WAUKESHA COUNTY PARTNERS WITH HOPE CENTER, INC. TO SERVE A NUTRITIOUS HOT MEAL EACH MONDAY EVENING TO THE HOMELESS, INDIGENT, AND NEEDY IN THE CITY OF WAUKESHA. THE SOCIETY PROVIDES A BAG LUNCH AND BEVERAGE TO SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN AND THEIR PARENTS MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY DURING THE ENTIRE SCHOOL SUMMER BREAK. THE SOCIETY PROVIDES A BACKPACK WITH GRADE APPROPRIATE SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO CHILDREN IN NEED EACH FALL BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS. THE SOCIETY OF ST VINCENT DE PAUL OF WAUKESHA COUNTY ST DISMAS JAIL MINISTRY ASSISTS THOSE RECENTLY RELEASED FROM INCARCERATION BY PROVIDING NECESSITIES UPON RELEASE INCLUDING HYGIENE PRODUCTS, UNDERGARMENTS, SOCKS, BUS PASSES, GAS CARDS AND SUBWAY CARDS. THE JAIL MINISTRY ALSO ASSISTS THE FORMERLY INCARCERATED WITH FINANCIAL NEEDS SUCH AS RENT, CAR REPAIRS, AND ADDICTION ASSESSMENTS. ST DISMAS AFTERCARE GROUPS, THE JOYFUL SOULS (WOMEN) AND HOPE UPON RELEASE (MEN) PROVIDE EXTENDED EMOTIONAL AND SPIRITUAL SUPPORT AS WELL AS A HEALTHY DINNER. DEVOTIONAL READINGS, CRAFTS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES PROVIDE PARTICIPANTS A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT DECREASING THE CHANCE FOR RECIDIVISM. THE SOCIETY OF ST VINCENT DE PAUL OF WAUKESHA COUNTY SYSTEMIC CHANGE MINISTRY, GETTING AHEAD, OFFERS A 16-WEEK WORKSHOP FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO DESIRE TO MAKE LIFE CHANGES AND REACH FINANCIAL STABILITY. LED BY GETTING AHEAD FACILITATORS, PARTICIPANTS THROUGH SELF-EXAMINATION AND DISCUSSION ARE MET WITH A POSITIVE ATMOSPHERE AND AN OPPORTUNITY TO BUILD RELATIONSHIPS/SUPPORT SYSTEMS. A HEALTHY DINNER IS PROVIDED AT EACH WORKSHOP. $25.00 GIFT CARDS ARE OFFERED TO PARTICIPANTS AS INCENTIVE FOR ATTENDANCE OF THE WORKSHOPS AND TO HELP OFFSET GASOLINE/TRANSPORTATION AND/OR CHILDCARE COSTS. PARTICIPANTS GRADUATE FROM THE GETTING AHEAD PROGRAM WITH THE KNOWLEDGE, TOOLS, AND ATTITUDE TO SUCCEED AND ARE PAIRED WITH A MENTOR FOR UP TO TWO YEARS. AN EXTENDED GRADUATE PROGRAM IS OFFERED TO PARTICIPANTS UPON GRADUATION.
