PROFESSIONAL MED TEAM AMBULANCE (PRO-MED), IS A NATIONALLY ACCREDITED NOT-FOR-PROFIT COMMUNITY SERVICE THAT WAS CREATED IN 1986. PRO-MED RESPONDS TO 9-1-1 EMERGENCY CALLS IN MUSKEGON COUNTY. IT ALSO RESPONDS TO REQUESTS FOR NON-EMERGENCY AMBULANCE TRANSPORTATION BETWEEN HEALTH CARE FACILITIES IN MUSKEGON AND OTTAWA COUNTIES. PRO-MED'S ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT (ALS) AMBULANCES ARE OUTFITTED WITH CARDIAC MONITORING EQUIPMENT, DEFIBRILLATORS AND APPROXIMATELY 30 MEDICATIONS THAT CAN STABILIZE LIFE-THREATENING CONDITIONS. ALS AMBULANCES ARE STAFFED 24 HOURS A DAY WITH EXPERIENCED AND CARING PARAMEDICS WHO DELIVER PATIENT CARE UNDER PHYSICIAN-APPROVED MEDICAL PROTOCOLS. THEY ALSO CAN COMMUNICATE DIRECTLY WITH EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT PHYSICIANS WHILE AT THE PATIENT'S SIDE. IN MOST CASES, PATIENTS ARE STABILIZED AT THE SCENE AND THEN TRANSPORTED SAFELY TO THE HOSPITAL.
