TO PROVIDE REHABILITATION AND EDUCATION TO THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH SUPPORT GROUPS, HOME VISITS, WORKSHOPS AND AN EDUCATIONAL WEBSITE. ALL SERVICES ARE PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE.

Part 3

MICHIGAN FOUNDATION FOR THE BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED (MFBVI) FACILITATED 5 SUPPORT GROUPS MONTHLY IN SENIOR RESIDENTIAL FACILITIES, WITH APPROXIMATELY 26 PEOPLE SERVED EACH MONTH. RESIDENTIAL VISITS TO VISUALLY IMPAIRED SENIORS HELPED THEM MAKE ADAPTIVE CHANGES IN THEIR HOMES. THERE WERE 26 RESIDENTIAL VISITS IN 2018-2019.


A WORKSHOP HELD IN COLLABORATION WITH WESTERN MICHIGAN UNIV. DEPT. OF LOW VISION AND BLINDNESS WAS HELD, HELPING 28 INDIVIDUALS LEARN WAYS TO MAINTAIN INDEPENDENCE. FIVE WMU GRADUATE STUDENTS PARTICIPATED WITH THE TEACHING, HELPING TO FULFILL THEIR PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS.


AN EDUCATIONAL WEBSITE, WHICH HAS SECTIONS ON ADAPTIVE TECHNIQUES AND RESOURCES FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED, WAS MAINTAINED. NUMEROUS INDIVIDUALS CONTACTED US THROUGH THE WEBSITE AND WERE DIRECTED TO APPROPRIATE RESOURCES.
