RESIDENTIAL: OAKLAND COUNTY'S ONLY 24 HOUR EMERGENCY SHELTER EXCLUSIVELY FOR VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT AND THEIR CHILDREN. CASE MANAGERS PROVIDE ASSISTANCE WITH SAFETY PLANNING, EMPLOYMENT, HOUSING AND MEDICAL NEEDS. RESIDENTS HAVE ACCESS TO A COMMUNAL KITCHEN AND PANTRY. COUNSELING AND OTHER THERAPEUTIC ACTIVITES ARE ALSO AVAILABLE. CRISIS AND SUPPORT LINE: OAKLAND COUNTY'S ONLY 24-HOUR HOTLINE DEALING SPECIFICALLY WITH ISSUES OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT. SPECIALISTS PROVIDE CALLERS WITH CRISIS INTERVENTION, SUPPORT ACCESS TO EMERGENCY SHELTER, ETC.
NON-RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS: COUNSELING PROGRAMS PROVIDE SPECIALIZED GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL SESSIONS TO ASSIST CHILDREN AND ADULTS IN HEALING FROM THE EFFECTS OF TRAUMA DUE TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND/OR SEXUAL ASSAULT. MASTERS LEVEL THERAPISTS ASSIST VICTIMS WITH SAFETY PLANNING, HEALING FROM TRAUMA, IMPROVING COPING MECHANISMS AND RE-ESTABLISHING INNER STRENGTH. USING FOUNDATION OF EMPOWERMENT, THERAPISTS USE A VARIETY OF THERAPEUTIC TECHNIQUES INCLUDING ART THERAPY, MEDITATION, AS WELL AS COGNITIVE AND BEHAVIORAL THERAPY.
SOCIAL ACTION: THE SOCIAL ACTION PROGRAM ADDRESSES THE IMMEDIATE SAFETY NEEDS OF DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE VICTIMS THROUGH 24-HOUR ADVOCACY AND CRISIS INTERVENTION SERVICES. ADVOCATES OFFER SUPPORT, INFORMATION AND REFERRALS FOR VICTIMS THROUGH ALL STAGES OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL PROCEEDINGS INCLUDING ASSISTANCE WITH PERSONAL PROTECTION ORDERS.
START: START (SAFE THERAPEUTIC ASSAULT RESPONSE TEAM) PROVIDES AROUND THE CLOCK MEDICAL ATTENTION, A FORENSIC EXAM, AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT TO VICTIMS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT IN A SAFE AND POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT. FOR CASES REFERRED FOR PROSECUTION, SEXUAL ASSAULT NURSE EXAMINERS PROVIDE EXPERT TESTIMONY AND ADVOCATES GIVE VICTIMS SUPPORT DURING COURT PROCEEDINGS. PREVENTION EDUCATION: TRAINED EDUCATORS WORK WITH YOUNG PEOPLE, AND THEIR TEACHERS AND PARENTS, TO EQUIP THEM WITH THE TOOLS TO MAKE BETTER CHOICES, TO BUILD RELATIONSHIPS BASED ON MUTUAL RESPECT, AND TO UNDERSTAND WHAT CONSENT MEANS. EDUCATORS ALSO PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL TRAINING TO HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS, LAW ENFORCEMENT, CLERGY, AND MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC ON THE DYNAMICS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, SEXUAL ASSAULT, AND THE ROOT CAUSES OF THESE ISSUES.
