THE URBAN ACTION NETWORK (UACT)SPURS REVITALIZATION IN SPRINGFIELD'S URBAN CORE BY ADVANCING AND SUPPORTING COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES AND INITIATIVES. UACT IS THE PRIMARY INITIATIVE OF THE SMITH/STOCKS-SMITH FAMILY FOUNDATION, A TAX-EXEMPT 501(C)3 PRIVATE OPERATING FOUNDATION. SHEILA STOCKS-SMITH IS THE MANAGING TRUSTEE OF THE FOUNDATION AND PRESIDENT OF UACT WITH FULL RESPONSIBILITY TO DIRECT THE DAY-TO- DAY OPERATIONS OF THE FOUNDATION AND ITS INITIATIVES. TRUSTESS INCLUDE LAWRENCE J. SMITH, M.D., SHEILA STOCKS- SMITH, JUSTIN STOCKS-SMITH AND LAUREN STOCKS-SMITH. TRUSTEES HAVE FULL DISCRETION OVER FOUNDATION ACTIVITIES. REAP (RESIDENT ENGAGEMENT AND ACTION PROJECT): REAP SEEKS TO FOSTER CONCRETE NEIGHBORHOOD-LEVEL IMPROVEMENT IN EAST SPRINGFIELD FIRST BY CREATING A COLLECTIVE VISION AMONG RESIDENTS FOR POSITIVE CHANGE FOLLOWED BY THE IMPLEMENTATION OF RESIDENT-GENERATED AND RESIDENT-LED COMMUNITY-BUILDING STRATEGIES AND ACTIONS.
NEIGHBORHOOD OUTREACH WORKERS: THE URBAN ACTION NETWORK'S SMART NEIGHBORHOOD CAMPAIGN, THROUGH ITS NEIGHBORHOOD OUTREACH WORKERS, SEEK TO INCREASE AWARENESS OF PEOPLE IN THE HARDEST HIT AREAS OF POVERTY IN SPRINGFIELD REGARDING IMPORTANT COMMUNITY RESOURCES. THE SMART NEIGHBORHOODS CAMPAIGN IS DESIGNED TO INCREASE ACCESS TO IMPORTANT COMMUNITY INFORMATION BY UNDERSERVED POPULATIONS. UACT'S NEIGHBORHOOD OUTREACH WORKERS WILL ASSIST COMMUNITY RESOURCE PARTNERS BY DISSEMINATING IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO OR OBTAINING FEEDBACK FROM TARGETED UNDERSERVED POPULATIONS IN SMALL TARGETED OUTREACH "CAMPAIGNS".
SUSTAIN SPRINGFIELD GREEN MAP: THE SUSTAIN SPRINGFIELD GREEN MAP IS A USER-FRIENDLY, GIS-BASED, ONLINE RESOURCE THAT GUIDES RESIDENTS, VISITORS, ORGANIZATIONS AND BUSINESSSES TO SUSTAINABLE OR ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY SERVICES, SITES, AND AMENITIES. THE MAP PROJECT IS A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN UACT, LINCOLN LAND COMMUNITY COLLEGE GREEN CENTER AND LLCC GEOGRAPHY DIVISION.
