Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
NICE EQUIPS NICARAGUANS TO REACH THEIR COUNTRY FOR CHRIST BY SUPPORTING AND EQUIPPING CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS CHURCHES & OTHER CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES. OUR GOAL IS TO FOSTER INDEPENDENCE RATHER THAN CREATING DEPENDENCY. WE PROVIDE DRY PACKAGED MEALS SCHOOL SUPPLIES AND OTHER SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
AS A MEANS TO STRETCH OUR PARTNER CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS' LIMITED RESOURCES WHILE IMPROVING THE NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF OUR STUDENTS WE PACKED DRY NUTRITIOUS MEALS WHICH WERE DISTRIBUTED IN SCHOOLS & THROUGH OTHER MINISTRY PARTNERS INCLUDING CHURCH-BASED CHILD OUTREACH PROGRAMS & FREESTANDING MINISTRIES TO MARGINALIZED POPULATIONS. THE MEAL PACKING WAS DONE IN THE U.S. USING OVER 5,000 VOLUNTEERS AND 12000 TOTAL VOLUNTEER HOURS AT 10 MEAL PACKING EVENTS SPONSORED BY CHURCHES SCHOOLS AND CLUBS. THE DRY RICE SOY AND VITAMIN ENRICHED CASSEROLE MEAL CAN BE PREPARED BY THE RECEIVING MINISTRY IN 20 MINUTES ,AND OFTEN IS THE ONLY MEAL OF THE DAY FOR RECIPIENTS. MONEY PREVIOUSLY SPENT BY TRYING TO MEET MINIMUM CALORIC NEEDS OF THE VERY YOUNGEST STUDENTS CAN NOW BE SPENT ON SCHOOL OPERATIONS. WHEN CONTAINERS OF FOOD ARE SHIPPED WE ADD DONATED SCHOOL SUPPLIES DESKS CHAIRS AND OTHER SCHOOL EQUIPMENT AS WELL AS LAYETTES HYGIENE KITS & CLOTHING. CHRISTIAN BOOKS AND MATERIALS IN SPANISH FOR STUDENTS & PASTORS ARE ALSO ADDED TO THE CONTAINER. IN 2022 WE SHIPPED 1-40' CONTAINER FOR A TOTAL OF 41,993 POUNDS. OVER 50 DIFFERENT MINISTRIES BENEFIT FROM EACH SHIPMENT.
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION NICE CONTINUED OUR CHRISTIAN SCHOOL SPONSORSHIP WITH PARTIAL SUPPORT OF 6 SCHOOLS AND WITH A TOTAL ENROLLMENT OF OVER 1600 STUDENTS. THE FUNDING WENT TO SCHOOLS' OPERATIONAL EXPENSES. SOME PARENTS PREVIOUSLY PAID A SMALL MONTHLY TUITION BUT DUE TO THE WORSENING ECONOMY THIS IS NO LONGER POSSIBLE. THE SCHOOLS WE ASSIST ARE IN HIGH POVERTY AREAS WHERE MANY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND SCHOOL IF THIS SCHOOL WAS NOT AVAILABLE TO THEM. APPROXIMATELY 2 3 OF THE CHILDREN IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN NICARAGUA DO NOT COMPLETE 6TH GRADE IN A COUNTRY WITH A POPULATION OF OVER 6 MILLION OF WHICH ABOUT 53% ARE UNDER THE AGE OF 25. THE COVID OUTBREAK IS LEAVING SOME CHILDREN WITHOUT ADULT FAMILY MEMBERS TO CARE FOR THEM. ABOUT 15 YEARS AGO NICARAGUAN TEACHERS FORMED A NONPROFIT AS A VEHICLE FOR CHRISTIAN TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS TO PROVIDE CONTINUING EDUCATION AND INFORMATION TO THE TEACHERS. NICE SPONSORS A 3 DAY YEARLY EDUCATIONAL RETREAT FOR TEACHERS AT WHICH EACH TEACHER RECEIVES A BOX OF SCHOOL SUPPLIES SUPPLIES WHICH THEY OR THEIR SCHOOL WOULD NOT OTHERWISE HAVE THE RESOURCES TO PURCHASE.
SPECIAL PROJECTS THESE PROJECTS INCLUDE MINIMAL SUPPORT FOR AGING OR ILL PASTORS & FUNERAL COSTS. NICE ALSO GAVE SOME FUNDING FOR REPAIRS FOR THE NICARAGUAN BIBLE INSTITUTE.
