Describe the Organization's Mission:

Part 3 - Line 1

HUNGER RELIEF INTERNATIONAL (HRI) IS A JUDEO-CHRISTIAN ORGANIZATION THAT WORKS TO IMPROVE AND PROTECT THE LIVES OF DESPERATELY POOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES BY BUILDING RESILIENCY, FIGHTING HUNGER, PROMOTING FAMILY UNITY, AND INCREASING SELF-SUFFICIENCY. HRI DOES THIS THROUGH DIRECT PROGRAMMING AND BY RAISING PUBLIC AWARENESS.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

IN 2021, HRI SERVED 326,048 PEOPLE THROUGH ALL OUR PROGRAMS AND SERVICES. THIS INCLUDES OUR RESPONSE TO THE 2021 EARTHQUAKE IN HAITI AND OUR CONTINUING COVID-19 PANDEMIC ACTIVITIES. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, HRI CONTINUED TO EXPAND OUR PROGRAMS TO MEET THE CHALLENGES OF MULTIPLE CRISES IN BOTH HAITI AND GUATEMALA. IN ADDITION, HRI CONTINUED TO ADAPT AND EXPAND OUR PROGRAMS TO MEET GROWING NEEDS WITH LONG-TERM, SUSTAINABLE RESPONSES TO THE DAILY STRUGGLES OF VULNERABLE CHILDREN, WOMEN AND FAMILIES. EXTREME POVERTY LEADS TO PAINFUL HUNGER, PREVENTABLE ILLNESS, POOR ACCESS TO BASIC SERVICES, LACK OF EDUCATION, AND THE INABILITY TO GENERATE SUFFICIENT INCOME TO SUPPORT A FAMILY.THROUGHOUT 2021, HRI STROVE TO IGNITE THE POWER AND STRENGTHS OF EVERY INDIVIDUAL WE SERVED; TO GIVE EACH THE HAND UP THEY NEEDED TO BREAK THE CYCLE OF POVERTY, AND TO BECOME SELF-RELIANT. THIS WAS ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH LIFE SKILLS PROGRAMMING FOR YOUTH AND ADULTS, INCOME GENERATION AND MICRO-ENTERPRISE TRAINING AND PROJECTS, AND ACCESS TO VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL TRAINING BY YOUTH AND WOMEN HEADING HOUSEHOLDS. SIMULTANEOUSLY, HRI ENSURED THAT NO CHILD IN OUR PROGRAMS WENT HUNGRY OR STRUGGLED TO ACCESS NUTRITIONAL FOOD DUE TO COVID-19, POLITICAL INSTABILITY, OR ANY OTHER NATURAL OR MANMADE DISASTER. IN GUATEMALA, OVER 240 PRE-SCHOOL AND SCHOOL AGED CHILDREN RECEIVED A NUTRITIOUS BREAKFAST EACH DAY THROUGH A TAKE HOME RATION PROGRAM DESIGNED TO ENSURE THAT EVERY CHILD HAD ACCESS TO A MORNING MEAL, A KEY TO ACADEMIC ACCOMPLISHMENT AND SCHOOL PARTICIPATION. THE SECURITY SITUATION IN HAITI CONTINUED TO DETERIORATE IN 2021 FOLLOWING THE ASSASSINATION OF PRESIDENT JOVENEL MOISE. HRI MAINTAINED A STRONG PRESENCE ON THE GROUND, WORKING WITH EXTREMELY VULNERABLE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES, EVEN IN THE FACE OF GANG VIOLENCE AND ENTIRE COMMUNITIES SUFFERING THE LOSS OF HOMES AND POSSESSIONS. EVEN AS OTHER ORGANIZATIONS OPTED TO CEASE OPERATIONS IN THE COUNTRY DUE TO THE GROWING INSTABILITY AND VIOLENCE, HRI CONTINUED TO EXPAND OUR PROGRAMS TO SERVE THOSE IN NEED. FIFTY (50) CHILDREN RECEIVED FULL SCHOLARSHIPS TO ATTEND PRIMARY SCHOOL AND HRI PROVIDED A BROAD ARRAY OF AFTER SCHOOL EDUCATIONAL AND SOCIAL PROGRAMS FOR THESE STUDENTS AGES 6 THROUGH 14 YEARS OLD. OVER 400 CHILDREN LIVING IN ORPHANAGES RECEIVED NUTRITIOUS FOOD SUPPORT DAILY, MEDICAL CARE, CLEAN WATER, PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT, AND EDUCATION AND LIFE SKILLS TRAINING IN HAITI.THROUGHOUT 2021, 22,740 INDIVIDUALS BENEFITED FROM MEDICAL CARE, LATRINES, CLEAN WATER, SAFE COOKSTOVES AND EMERGENCY CARE, AND 3,593 BENEFITED FROM TRAINING, EDUCATION AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT. FINALLY, IN 2021 HRI PROVIDED 686,646 MEALS TO OVER 7,200 CHILDREN AND ADULTS, AND THAT INCLUDES EMERGENCY RELIEF SUPPLIES TO EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS IN HAITI.
