THE VILLAGES CDC SUPPORTS AND ADVOCATES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF INCLUSIVE PLACES AND NEIGHBORHOODS WITHIN THE VILLAGES.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
SUCCESSFULLY PETITIONED THE CITY TO INSTALL MORE SPEED HUMPS IN THE VILLAGES (AND ALSO PINGREE PARK). OUR DISTRICT REPRESENTS ONE PART OF DETROIT WHERE YOU CAN SEE THE CLEAR VISUAL PATTERNS OF HOW OUR ADVOCACY HAS LED BOTH TO THE DIRECT INSTALLATIONS OF SPEED HUMPS AS WELL AS ENABLING NEIGHBORS TO ADVOCACY ON THEIR OWN BEHALF. SPING AND SUMMER 2021. GETTING THE CITY TO COME BACK AND CLEAR OUT PILES OF DEBRIS THAT THEY INADVERTENTLY LEFT OUT WHEN THEY WERE CLEARING THE ALLEYS IN THE WEST VILLAGE, MARCH 17, 2021. HANTZ WOODLANDS HAS HAD A HOLD ON CITY OWNED PROPERTY IN SECTIONS OF THE VILLAGES. THIS HAS PRECLUDED RESIDENTS FROM ACQUIRING THE LOTS THAT WOULD NORMALLY BE AVAILABLE THROUGH THE DETROIT LAND BANK AUTHORITIES SIDE LOT PROGRAM. HOWARD FREEMAN, WHO LIVES ON PARKER BETWEEN CHARLEVOIX AND GOETH AVENUES, WAS NOT ABLE TO GET HIS SIDELOT. HOWEVER, HANTZ WOODLANDS HAD AGREED TO NOT EXERCISE THEIR RIGHT OF FIRST REFUSAL.WE ARE PROUD TO STATE THAT DUE TO US ADVOCATING FOR HOWARD, THE DLBA WAS ABLE TO CONVEY (VIA QUITCLAIM DEED) TO HOWARD THE LOT DIRECTLY ABUTTING HIS RESIDENCE. IT IS PRECISELY THIS SORT OF ASSISTANCE THAT WE ARE MOST PROUD OF. THE ABILITY TO HELP CONNECT RESIDENTS WITH OUT COMES THAT ARENT ALWAYS OBVIOUS, BUT THAT THEY DESERVE. WE WERE ABLE TO CLEAR UP A POTENTIAL ISSUE WITH SOME OF OUR WEST VILLAGE RESIDENTS. A NEWER RENTER THOUGHT THAT HER MANAGEMENT COMPANY WAS ACTIVELY DISPLACING TENANTS AT 1780 VAN DYKE. WHEN IN FACT IT TURNED OUT TO BE THAT SOMEONE WAS INDEED EVICTED, BUT THIS WAS DUE TO AN ISSUE CONCERNING HOARDING, WHICH WAS NOT PANNING OUT WELL. THE REASONING SEEMED TO SATISFY THE NEWER RESIDENT, AND HOPEFULLY WE WERE ABLE TO AVERT A NEEDLESS CONTROVERSY. THE DEBUT OF OUR HOUSING STABILIZATION PILOT CONTAINED MANY LEARNINGS. BY KEEPING AT IT, WE WERE ABLE TO HAVE TEN HOUSES STABILIZED IN THE VILLAGES. THIS INCLUDES MINOR REPAIRS, CLEARING TITLES, MAKING SURE RESIDENTS WERE CURRENT ON TAXES AND UTILITIES, ALSO GETTING THEM CONNECTED TO RESOURCES THAT HELPED THEM CATCH UP ON ARREARAGES. WE ALSO GAVE RESOURCES TO HELP EACH HOUSEHOLD INQUIRE ABOUT ESTABLISHING A WILL. THIS WOULD ENSURE THAT THESE HOMES REMAIN ASSETS TO THE FAMILIES THAT HAVE BEEN THERE FOR YEARS.
