THE FAMILY ROOM IS A PROGRAM SUPPORTED BY OUR COMMUNITY, OTTAWA REGIONAL HOSPITAL AUXILIARY, AND THE HOSPITAL. THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO ENCOURAGE AND REINFORCE POSITIVE PARENTING SKILLS. TO QUALIFY FOR THIS PROGRAM, THE PARENT MUST ENROLL IN THE GOVERNMENT'S WIC (WOMEN, INFANTS & CHILDREN) PROGRAM AND HAVE CHILDREN THREE YEARS OLD OR YOUNGER. ONCE THE PARENT QUALIFIES, THEY EARN POINTS THROUGH VARIOUS POSITIVE PARENTING SKILLS, WHICH INCLUDE REGULAR AND TIMELY DOCTOR VISITS, PAYING RENT AND UTILITY BILLS ON TIME, LEARNING NEW JOB SKILLS, OR BY TAKING STEPS TOWARDS EARNING A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR GED. THE POINTS THEY EARN CAN BE USED TO "PURCHASE" ITEMS IN THE FAMILY ROOM STORE, SUCH AS BABY OR HOUSEHOLD SUPPLIES OR EVEN FURNITURE.
