STRAWDOG THEATRE COMPANY'S MISSION IS TO ENRICH THE LIVES OF OUR COMMUNITY, OUR AUDIENCES, AND OUR ARTISTS WITH DYNAMIC, INTIMATE THEATRE EXPERIENCES, CRAFTED THROUGH COMPASSION, INCLUSIVITY, AND INGENUITY.

HERSHEL AND THE HANUKKAH GOBLINS WAS OUR FIRST RETURN TO IN-PERSON PERFORMANCE. KEEPING STRICT PROTOCOLS, ALL AUDIENCE MEMBERS AND ACTORS WERE MASKED, AND WE LIMITED CAPACITY IN AN EFFORT TO KEEP AUDIENCES AND ARTISTS SAFE. THE PROGRAM HELD APPEAL FOR FAMILIES AND MEMBERS OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY, AND THIS WAS OUR 4TH YEAR PRODUCING THE PIECE. THIS WAS ALSO OUR FIRST PRODUCTION THAT OPERATED UNDER OUR "FREE THEATRE" MODEL, WHERE TICKETS WERE FREE FOR EVERYBODY. WE ALSO OFFERED A STREAMING VERSION. THE PRODUCTION WAS SEEN BY 313 IN-PERSON AUDIENCE MEMBERS AND BY AN ADDITIONAL 148 AUDIENCE MEMBERS VIA OUR STREAMING OPTION. THE SHOW RAN FROM NOVEMBER 20, 2021 THROUGH DECEMBER 12, 2021.
ON THE GREENBELT WAS A NEW PLAY WRITTEN BY ONE OF OUR ENSEMBLE MEMBERS. THIS WAS ANOTHER IN-PERSON PRODUCTION, WHICH ALSO OFFERED A STREAMING OPTION, AND WAS OUR SECOND PRODUCTION UNDER OUR "FREE THEATRE" MODEL, WHERE TICKETS WERE FREE FOR EVERYBODY. THE SHOW RAN FROM APRIL 22, 2021 THROUGH MAY 28, 2021. THE PRODUCTION WAS SEEN BY 621 IN-PERSON AUDIENCE MEMBERS AND BY AN ADDITIONAL 47 AUDIENCE MEMBERS VIA OUR STREAMING OPTION. THE PRODUCTION TOLD A STORY OF FAMILY AND RECONCILIATION, WAS CRITICALLY WELL-REVIEWED, AND WAS RECOMMENDED BY THE CHICAGO THEATRE AWARDS COMMITTEE (THE JOSEPH JEFFERSON AWARDS).
THE MAJORITY OF THE EXPENSES COVER COMPENSATION COSTS FOR THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR AND PRODUCTION STAFF MEMBERS. IN ADDITION, THERE IS A PUBLIC RELATIONS FEE TO REACH OUR AUDIENCE AS WE EMERGED FROM THE PANDEMIC AND BEGAN PRODUCING LIVE THEATRE. LASTLY, WE INVESTED IN SERVICES AND SUPPLIES TO INCREASE THE ACCESSIBILITY OF OUR PRODUCTIONS.
