NORTH SUBURBAN SOCCER ASSOCIATION (NSSA) IS A COMMUNITY BASED YOUTH SOCCER ASSOCIATION WHOSE SOLE PURPOSE IS TO PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR AREA YOUTH (BOYS AND GIRLS, AGES 6 TO 18) TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SPORT OF SOCCER. NSSA ENDEAVORS TO: -TEACH THE CONCEPT OF COMPETITION THAT EMPHASIZES THE IMPORTANCE OF TEAMWORK AND GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP, AND THE NEED TO ACQUIRE DECISION MAKING SKILLS; THE VALUE OF SUCH SKILLS WILL GO BEYOND THE SOCCER FIELD, AND WILL HELP THE PLAYERS TO DEVELOP YOUNG ADULTS. -ENCOURAGE THE PLAYERS TO CHALLENGE THEMSELVES TO DO THE BEST THEY CAN DO, TO COMPETE AGAINST THEIR OWN POTENTIAL, TO WORK TO CONTINUALLY IMPROVE THEIR SKILLS AND REALIZE THAT MEASURING IMPROVEMENT IS NOT DONE BY FOCUSING ON WINNING AND LOSING, BUT BY THE GAINS MADE AS A RESULT OF EFFORT. -INCORPORATE FUN INTO THE MIX OF INSTRUCTION, TRAINING, CONDITIONING, AND COMPETITION TO GIVE THE PLAYERS THE BEST SETTING TO DEVELOP THEIR SOCCER SKILLS, PERFORM TO THEIR POTENTIAL AND LOOK FORWARD TO PLAYING SOCCER INTO THE FUTURE. DURING THE CURRENT YEAR, APPROXIMATELY 750 YOUTH PARTICIPATED ON 16 RECREATIONAL AND 34 TRAVELING TEAMS. NSSA SERVES AREAS INCLUDED IN BOUNDARIES OF THE ROSEVILLE AREA SCHOOLS ISD 623 AND THE MOUNDS VIEW PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT 621, AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES, IN THE ST. PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS METROPOLITAN AREA. NSSA ORGANIZES TEAMS THROUGH A REGISTRATION PROCESS FOR THE RECREATIONAL PROGRAM, AND A TRYOUT PROCESS FOR THE COMPETITIVE PROGRAM. THE MAIN SEASON OF PLAY STARTS IN MAY AND ENDS IN AUGUST. A SHORTER SEASON RUNS IN THE FALL AS WELL. APPROXIMATELY 50 ADULT VOLUNTEERS ARE ALSO INVOLVED IN NSSA PROGRAMS. THE ORGANIZATION AND OPERATION OF NSSA IS A YEAR-ROUND COMMITMENT INVOLVING THOUSANDS OF HOURS OF VOLUNTEER ACTIVITY.
