THE PERIPHERAL NERVE SOCIETY PROVIDES MEETINGS, TEACHING COURSES, GUIDELINES, AND OTHER RESOURCES TO AID IN THE EDUCATION OF MEMBERS. THE SOCIETY SPONSORS SCIENTIFIC MEETINGS WHERE SCIENTISTS DISCUSS ADVANCES IN UNDERSTANDING THE BASIC BIOLOGY AND FUNCTION OF THE PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM, THE NATURE OF NERVE INJURY AND REPAIR, AND HOW THIS KNOWLEDGE MIGHT BE APPLIED TO CARE FOR PATIENTS WITH GENETIC, TRAUMATIC, TOXIC, OR METABOLIC NERVE DISEASE. MEMBERSHIP IN THE PERIPHERAL NERVE SOCIETY IS OPEN TO ANY PROFESSIONAL WITH INTEREST IN DISORDERS OF THE PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. MEMBERS OF THE PERIPHERAL NERVE SOCIETY MAY JOIN SEVERAL SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS, INCLUDING THE INFLAMMATORY NEUROPATHY CONSORTIUM, CHARCOT-MARIE-TOOTH AND RELATED NEUROPATHIES CONSORTIUM, INTERNATIONAL DIABETES NEUROPATHY CONSORTIUM, TOXIC NEUROPATHY CONSORTIUM, AND NEUROPATHIC PAIN CONSORTIUM BY REQUEST.
THE SOCIETY PUBLISHES THE JOURNAL OF THE PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM, WHICH IS A PEER REVIEWED SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATION WHOSE MAJOR GOAL IS TO DISSEMINATE NEW KNOWLEDGE ON ALL SCIENTIFIC AND CLINICAL INFORMATION REGARDING THE PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYTEM.
