EEDUCATION/VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS - 1) NORTH POND GARDENERS/LINCOLN PARK TREE CARE CORPS/CORPORATE WORKDAY PROGRAM:TRAIN AND MANAGE CORPS OF 1500 VOLUNTEERS TO PLANT WILDFLOWERS, SEED, IDENTIFY AND REMOVE INVASIVE SPECIES, PRUNE AND MULCH TREES/SHRUBS, MAINTAIN NATIVE PLANTS IN URBAN PRAIRIES, WOODLANDS AND WETLANDS, AND EDUCATE THEM ON THE IMPORTANCE OF NATIVE PLANTS AND ANIMALS TO OUR ENVIRONMENT AND REGIONAL HISTORY. VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTED OVER 2,500 SERVICE HOURS TO THE PROGRAM IN 2021, ADDED OVER 1,000 NATIVE PLANTS & TREES, AND MULCHED 500 PARK TREES. 2) LINCOLN PARK DOCENTS: IN 2021, WE WELCOMED OUR DOCENTS BACK WITH REVISED COVID POLICIES, WITH OVER 50 DOCENTS INTERACTING WITH OVER 50,000 CONSERVATORY AND LILY POOL VISITORS.
MAINTENANCE OF DONOR-RESTORED PARK SITES - STAFF RESTORED AND MAINTAINED THE ALFRED CALDWELL LILY POOL, NORTH POND NATURE SANCTUARY, AND OTHER PREVIOUS PROJECTS IN LINCOLN PARK.
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PLANNING - CONTINUED TO DEVELOP THE NORTH POND MASTER PLAN FOR THE REVITALIZATION OF THE NORTH POND NATURE SANCTUARY (15 ACRES) AND IMPROVEMENT OF 36 ACRES OF PUBLIC PARK LAND SURROUNDING IT.
BIO-DIVERSITY PROGRAM - TRAIN AND MANAGE CITIZEN-SCIENCE VOLUNTEERS TO MONITOR FROG SPECIES AT THE NORTH POND NATURE SANCTUARY AND THROUGHOUT THE CHICAGO PARK DISTRICT SYSTEM. 25 VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTED OVER 100 HOURS IN 2019.
