ART MUSEUM, WITH RELATED ACTIVITIES, PUBLIC VIEWING OF COLLECTION OF AMERICAN ARTISTS. RELATED ACTIVITIES INCLUDE WORKSHOPS, ART CLASSES FOR CHILDREN AND A FEW EXHIBITIONS A YEAR.

THE JOHN H. VANDERPOEL ART ASSOCIATION CONTINUED TO FULFILL ITS STATED MISSION TO PERPETUATE THE NAME AND MEMORY OF JOHN H. VANDERPOEL AND TO MAINTAIN ITS ART COLLECTION AND TO AID CHILDREN AND ADULTS IN ACQUIRING A KNOWLEDGE AND APPRECIATION OF ART. WE OFFERED CLASSES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE ON SATURDAY MORNINGS WITH SCHOLARSHIP SLOTS AVAILABLE FOR RIDGE PARK CHILDREN. THESE POPULAR CLASSES WERE CONDUCTED BY VANDERPOEL ART ASSOCIATION BOARD MEMBER LINDA VORDERER. IN MARCH WE REOPENED THE GALLERY FOLLOWING THE RECENT PANDEMIC AND TO CONTINUE OUR OUTREACH PROGRAM BY PUTTING ON THE RIDGE PARK ART FAIR. THE FAIR TOOK PLACE ON JUNE 25TH AND WE HAD APPROXIMATELY 40 EXHIBITORS. IT WAS A GREAT EVENT AND SOME RAIN SHOWERS DID NOT DAMPEN THE ENTHUSIASM OF ALL INVOLVED.WE OPENED OUR GALLERY FOR THE CHICAGO PARK DISTRICT'S SUMMER CAMP AFTER THE ART FAIR, AS WE CUSTOMARILY DO. THE GALLERY IS THE ONLY AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM AT RIDGE PARK.IN SEPTEMBER , WE WERE PART OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD-WIDE ART WALK, SPONSORED BY THE BEVERLY AREA ARTS ALLIANCE, WHICH DRAWS THOUSANDS OF VISITORS TO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD ANNUALLY. THE IMPORTANT CERAMIC ARTIST, ROBIN POWERS, DISPLAYED HER WORK IN OUR GALLERY AND SHE OFFERED A DEMONSTRATION IN CLAY SCULPTING. WE HAD MANY INTERESTED GUESTS THAT DAY. WE WELCOMED TOURS TO OUR NEWLY REOPENED GALLERY TO SEVERAL ORGANIZATIONS INCLUDING THE HISTORIC ARTS ACADEMY PALETTE & CHISEL. WE WERE AGAIN INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CITY WIDE OPEN HOUSE CHICAGO ORGANIZED BY THE CHICAGO ARCHITECTURE CENTER. WE HAD SEVERAL HUNDRED VISITORS OVER A WEEKEND IN OCTOBER. IN DECEMBER CONSTRUCTION BEGAN OF NEEDED RENOVATIONS TO THE RIDGE PARK FIELDHOUSE INCLUDING THE INSTALLATION OF AN ELEVATOR. WE WERE SAD TO CLOSE OUR GALLERY AGAIN BUT WE OPTIMISTICALLY LOOK FORWARD TO REOPENING WITH A MUCH IMPROVED FACILITY THAT ALLOWS ACCESS BY EVERYONE."
