THE MISSION OF THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS IS TO OBTAIN OPTIMAL PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND SOCIAL, HEALTH FOR ALL INFANTS, CHILDREN, ADOLESCENTS, AND YOUNG ADULTS. THE ACADEMY SEEKS TO PROMOTE THIS GOAL BY ENCOURAGING AND ASSISTING ITS MEMBERS IN THEIR EFFORTS TO MEET THE OVERALL HEALTH NEEDS OF INFANTS, CHILDREN, ADOLESCENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS, BY PROVIDING SUPPORT AND COUNSEL TO PARENTS AND OTHER MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC CONCERNED WITH THE HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELL-BEING OF INFANTS, CHILDREN, ADOLESCENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS, THEIR GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT, AND BY SERVING AS AN ADVOCATE FOR INFANTS, CHILDREN, ADOLESCENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS AND THEIR FAMILIES WITHIN THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE.
