OUR MISSION IS TO EXAMINE VITAL CIVIC AND SOCIAL ISSUES THROUGH A PRISM OF FAITH AND CREATE AND DISTRIBUTE PROGRAMS TO INSPIRE ACTION IN THE CHICAGO COMMUNITY AND BEYOND. ON OCTOBER 31, 1933, THE ORGANIZATION RECEIVED A DETERMINATION OF EXEMPT STATUS FROM THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE. BASED ON A REQUEST BY THE ORGANIZATION, THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE CONFIRMED IN A LETTER DATED MAY 14, 1942 THAT THE ORGANIZATION WAS NOT REQUIRED TO FILE ANNUAL RETURNS. THIS POSITION WAS RECONFIRMED IN A RULING DATED OCTOBER 20, 1970. DURING THE PERIOD ENDED AUGUST 31, 2007, THE ORGANIZATION DETERMINED THAT IT NO LONGER OPERATED AS A "CHURCH," BUT CONTINUES TO OPERATE EXCLUSIVELY FOR RELIGIOUS AND CHARITABLE PURPOSES UNDER THE INTERNAL REVENUE CODE.
