ASANTE CHILDREN'S THEATRE (ACT) IS A CULTURAL PROGRAM THE USES THE TRADITIONS OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN PERFORMING ARTS SUCH AS ACTING,SIGING, DANCE AND STORYTELLING TO FOSTER THE PERSONAL AND ARTISTIC DEVELOPMENT IN YOUTH AND ADULTS FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE TO CONNECT WITH EACH OTHER AND GROW. ACT CREATES INSPIRING PERFORMANCES WHICH EDUCATE AND PROMOTE THEMES THAT SPEAK TO A GLOBAL COMMUNITY

. THE ASANTE CHILDREN'S THEATRE IS A BRANCH OF THE ASANTE ART INSTITUTE AS ITS CORE TRAINING SYSTEM. IT IS DESIGNED TO DEVELOP AN ARRAY OF AGE- APPROPRIATE LIFE SKILLS FOR YOUTH 6 - 18 YEARS WHILE PROVIDING INSTRUCTION IN ACTING, SINGING, DANCE AND STORYTELLING. THE CHILDREN'S THEATRE CONSISTS OF: PREP4LIFE, AN INTRODUCTION TO ACTING, SINGING, DANCE AND STORYTELLING AND PREP UPPER CLASS, AND SANKOFA PARADIGM. PREP4LIFE STUDENTS, AGES 6 - 12 MET 1/DAY/WEEK IN 6-8-12-WEEK SESSIONS. PREP UPPER CLASS, A NEW INITIATIVE TO ENGAGE YOUTH IN EXPERIENCES THEATRE AND VISUAL ARTS, VIDEOGRAPHY, AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF AUDIO BOOKS. STUDENTS AGES 12 - 18 MET 2/DAYS/WEEK IN 8-12- WEEK SESSIONS. IN JANUARY 2021 WE HELD A VIRTUAL FILM FEST THAT FEATURED RECORDED PERFORMANCES OF PREP4LIFE, PREP UPPER CLASS WITH TESTIMONIES BY ASANTE ALUMS. WE LAUNCHED A NEW IN-SCHOOL WORKSHOP FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, "THEATRE THIS IS HOW WE DO IT". STUDENTS MEET 1/DAY/WEEK PER SEMESTER. SANKOFA PARADIGM, A TRAUMA INFORMED THEATRE PROGRAM FOR GIRLS, FINISHED IN JULY WITH THE RELEASE OF AN AUDIO BOOK TITLED DREAM FIRE THAT WAS PERFORMED BY STUDENTS AND PARENTS. THEN, DUE TO COVID-19, SANKOFA PARADIGM WAS PUT ON HIATUS UNTIL FALL 2022. TOTAL SERVED BY CHILDREN'S THEATRE - 105
SUMMER 2020 THROUGH OUR (10) SUMMER PARTNERSHIPS WE WERE IN-PERSON OFFERING A MODIFIED VERSION OF THE PREP4LIFE CURRICULUM. STUDENTS MET 2/DAYS/WEEK FOR 6-7-WEEK SESSIONS. WE ALSO ENROLLED YOUTH 12-18 IN THE ACADEMY'S 7-WEEK SUMMER INTENSIVE EXPERIENCE. STUDENTS MET 4/DAYS/WEEK. THE INTENSIVE FINISHED IN AUGUST & SEPTEMBER 2020 WITH 2 OUTDOOR PERFORMANCES EACH. WE SERVED 285 YOUTH.
ASANTE COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS AND ASANTE ARTREPRENEURAL INCUBATOR ARE THE OTHER TWO BRANCHES OF THE INSTITUTE. MARCH 2021, WE LAUNCHED ZORA'S DAUGHTERS, A NEW LITERARY ARTS PROGRAM FOR GIRLS. SEVENTEEN STUDENTS MET 1/DAY/WEEK FOR 8 WEEKS. THE SESSION ENDED WITH A FORMAL TEA AND PERFORMANCES BY THE STUDENTS. WE ALSO DEVELOPED PLANS TO LAUNCH AN IN- SCHOOL MODEL SEPTEMBER 2021. WE LAUNCHED KOSA (KEEPERS OF THE SACRED ART) A NEW PROGRAM, A TRAINING GROUND FOR NEW AND UPCOMING ARTISTS, CLINICIANS, PERFORMERS, ARTS HISTORIANS, AND ARTS PRACTITIONERS. THE ARTREPRENEURAL INCUBATOR PILOT, STILL IN THE PLANNING STAGES, IT WILL BE LAUNCHED IN 2022.
