Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

PROVISION OF HIGH QUALITY WET AND DRY FOODS AND PRESCRIBED MAINTENANCE OR SPECIAL DIET FOODS FOR THE FACILITY POPULATION. ANIMALS ARE FED AND WATERED TWICE DAILY.

THE MISSION OF LWHA HAS PRIMARILY FOCUSED ON THE CARE AND UPKEEP OF ANIMALS WHO WERE AGED OR MEDICALLY COMPROMISED. ROUTINE MEDICAL SUPERVISION IS ONGOING AND THERE ARE AN AVERAGE OF THREE TO SIX ANIMALS WHO NEED SPECIAL IN-PATIENT MEDICAL CARE AT ANY ONE TIME ON AN ONGOING BASIS, PROVIDED BY TWO VETERINARIANS WITH LONG PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS TO LWHA.

BECAUSE OF THE SUSCEPTIBILITY OF FACILITY ANIMALS DUE TO AGE OR COMPROMISED GENERAL HEALTH, A LARGE PART OF ONGOING EXPENSES RELATES TO THE MAINTENANCE OF THE STUDIOS, KENNELS, RUNS AND OUT BUILDINGS WHERE THE ANIMALS LIVE. THESE RECEIVE ONGOING MAINTENANCE CARE AND OCCASIONAL CONSTRUCTION OF NECESSARY NEW STRUCTURES BY CONTRACTORS AND/OR VOLUNTEERS WHEN ABLE. IN ADDITION, HEATING/COOLING AND LIGHTING ARE REQUIRED AT A HIGHER LEVEL OF USE THAN IN YOUNGER OR MORE ROBUST FACILITY POPULATIONS.
