DURING FY 2020, DESPITE DIFFICULTIES RELATED TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, BICYCLE INDIANA ACCOMPLISHED THE FOLLOWING:10,000 BICYCLE INDIANA RESOURCE GUIDES WERE DESIGNED, PRINTED AND DISTRIBUTED TO BIKE SHOPS, SCHOOLS, VISITOR CENTERS, AND OTHER LOCATIONS STATEWIDE. THE BICYCLE RESOURCE GUIDE WAS ALSO PUBLISHED ON OUR WEBSITE AS A READABLE AND DOWNLOADABLE DOCUMENT. APPROXIMATELY 2,000 TRANSPORTATION BICYCLE SAFETY EDUCATION PIECES WERE DISTRIBUTED. THESE INCLUDE COLORING BOOKS FOR CHILDREN, INDIANA BICYCLE LAWS POCKET GUIDES, CYCLIST GUIDES TO INDIANA, DRIVERS IN THE KNOW LITERATURE, AND OTHER ITEMS. THESE ARE DISTRIBUTED TO SCHOOLS, BIKE EVENTS, DRIVERS EDUCATION TRAINING PROGRAMS, AND OTHERS UPON REQUEST.STAFF AND BOARD VOLUNTEERS BEGAN A PROJECT TO TRANSLATE THESE MATERIALS INTO THE MOST FREQUENTLY SPOKEN LANGUAGES IN INDIANA TO BETTER SERVE ALL COMMUNITIES. THESE INCLUDE SPANISH AND BURMESE.BICYCLE INDIANA SERVED AS A RESOURCE FOR HOOSIERS BICYCLING AND TRANSPORTATION QUESTIONS VIA SOCIAL MEDIA, LOCAL NEWS MEDIA, AND VIRTUAL EVENTS ACROSS THE STATE. IN 2020 THESE INCLUDED:SOCIAL HOUR LEGISLATIVE UPDATE FOR THE PUBLIC REGARDING NEW INDIANA LAWS AFFECTING BICYCLISTS.SPONSORED THE FORT WAYNE PARKS AND RESOURCES WINTER SOLSTICE RIDE, ALLEN COUNTY, INDIANAPEDAL AND PARK BIKE VALET PARKING WAS PROVIDED TO SEVERAL INDIANAPOLIS FARMERS MARKETS THAT WERE ABLE TO OPEN TO THE PUBLIC DURING THE SUMMER AND FALL OF 2020.VULNERABLE ROAD USER: BICYCLE INDIANA PREPARED A POSITION PAPER IN LATE 2020 THAT WAS PUBLISHED IN EARLY 2021 TO PROVIDE BEST PRACTICES AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR VULNERABLE ROAD USERS. OUR POSITION PAPER WAS PREPARED AFTER MULTIPLE IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL PUBLIC MEETINGS IN 2019 AND 2020 WITH HOOSIERS TO DISCUSS CONCERNS AND NEEDS FOR LEGISLATION TO PROTECT PEOPLE RIDING BICYCLES, MOTORCYCLES, SCOOTERS, OR ANIMALS, AND PEDESTRIANS AND PEOPLE USING WHEELCHAIRS WHO USE ROADWAYS IN INDIANA.
