THE WORKFORCE INNOVATION AND OPPORTUNITY ACT (WIOA) HELPS JOB SEEKERS AND WORKERS ACCESS EMPLOYMENT, EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES TO SUCCEED IN THE LABOR MARKET, AND MATCHES EMPLOYERS WITH THE SKILLED WORKERS THEY NEED TO COMPETE IN THE GLOBAL ECONOMY. CAREER SERVICES ARE IMPLEMENTED THROUGH THE LOCAL WORKONE SYSTEM, A CORNERSTONE OF ADVANCING THE PUBLIC WORKFORCE SYSTEM. BETWEEN JULY 1, 2021 AND JUNE 30, 2022, OVER 31,000 INDIVIDUALS ENTERED WORKONE, WITH NEARLY 6,300 ACCESSING SERVICES THROUGH THE PUBLIC COMPUTERS THERE; NEARLY 5,400 ATTENDED A RE-EMPLOYMENT EVENT, AND OVER 2,500 ATTENDED A WORKSHOP OR COMPLETED AN ASSESSMENT. DURING THE SAME TIME PERIOD, 99 INDIVIDUALS WERE ENROLLED IN THE WIOA ADULT PROGRAM, 53 INDIVIDUALS WERE ENROLLED IN THE DISLOCATED WORKER PROGRAM, AND 163 INDIVIDUALS WERE ENROLLED IN THE YOUTH PROGRAM.
THE INDY ACHIEVES PROGRAM HELPS MARION COUNTY STUDENTS PURSUE AND COMPLETE POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION. IT AIMS TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF MARION COUNTY STUDENTS BY PROVIDING SCHOLARSHIPS, GRANTS, AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES DESIGNED TO INCREASE COLLEGE COMPLETION RATES. BETWEEN JULY 1, 2021 AND JUNE 30, 2022, OVER 500 STUDENTS WERE PROVIDED WITH COMPLETION GRANTS AND NEARLY 1,600 STUDENTS WERE PROVIDED PROMISE SCHOLARSHIPS, ALONG WITH MENTORSHIP, FAFSA COMPLETION, AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES NEEDED TO ASSIST STUDENTS ENTER INTO AND COMPLETE POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION WITHIN MARION COUNTY.
YOUTH EMPLOYMENT SERVICES (YES) PROVIDES BARRIER BUSTING SUPPORTS, NO AVAILABLE THROUGH OTHER PROGRAMS, SUCH AS WIOA YOUTH, TO YOUNG PEOPLE, AGED 18-24. THESE SERVICES ARE DESIGNED TO REMOVE SIGNIFICANT BARRIERS FOR SUCCESSFUL TRANSITION TO EMPLOYMENT FOR THIS TRADITIONALLY UNDERSERVED POPULATION. EMPLOYINDY'S YES PROGRAM HAS BEEN HIGHLIGHTED AS A BEST PRACTICE AT NUMEROUS REGIONAL AND NATIONAL CONFERENCES SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 2003. YES ALSO PROVIDES FUNDING, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, TOOLS AND PRACTICES, AND A COMMUNITY NETWORK THAT EMPOWERS COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS TO ACCOMPLISH MORE FOR THE EVER-GROWING AT-RISK YOUTH POPULATIONS. BETWEEN JULY 1, 2021 AND JUNE 30, 2022, YES PROVIDED SERVICES TO OVER 350 AT-RISK YOUTH, AND HAS SERVED NEARLY 8,300 YOUTH SINCE THE PROGRAM'S INCEPTION.
