THE MISSION OF CANCER SERVICES OF NORTHEAST INDIANA IS TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF THOSE AFFECTED BY CANCER BY PROVIDING MEANINGFUL RESOURCES, INFORMATION AND COMPASSIONATE ASSISTANCE.

CANCER SERVICES PROVIDES DIRECT SERVICES TO PEOPLE WITH CANCER AND THEIR FAMILIES LIVING IN NORTHEAST INDIANA INCLUDING PRACTICAL HELP WITH TANGIBLE RESOURCES AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT. PRACTICAL HELP IN 2023 INCLUDED 191,593 IN DIRECT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO HELP WITH CANCER-RELATED MEDICAL COSTS. ADDITIONALLY, 286,540 WAS SPENT IN PROVIDING 1,301 ITEMS OF MEDICAL EQUIPMENT BY LOAN, AND 1,154 WIGS AND HEAD COVERINGS AS WELL AS MORE THAN 38,500 PERSONAL HEALTH SUPPLIES SUCH AS BANDAGES. PROFESSIONAL STAFF ALSO PROVIDES INFORMATION, REFERRAL AND PERSONALIZED ADVOCACY REGARDING CANCER AND INSURANCE, EMPLOYMENT AND FINANCIAL MATTERS. 138 INDIVIDUALS RECEIVED PERSONALIZED NUTRITION CONSULTATIONS WITH A REGISTERED DIETICIAN. MASSAGES AND OTHER INDIVIDUALIZED WELLNESS THERAPIES WERE PROVIDED TO TOTALING 1.702 SESSIONS.194 PEOPLE ATTENDED GROUP WELLNESS SESSIONS AND 110 PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN MONTHLY SUPPORT GROUPS. CLIENT ADVOCATES PARTNER WITH PHYSICIANS TO PROVIDE PERSONALIZED HELP FOR INDIVIDUAL FAMILIES. PROFESSIONAL STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS PROVIDE EMOTIONAL SUPPORT THROUGH SUPPORT GROUPS AS WELL AS 831 SESSIONS OF INDIVIDUALIZED MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING WITH LICENSED COUNSELORS. CANCER SERVICES ADVOCATES ALSO MADE VISITS TO HOMES, HOSPITALS AND TREATMENT CENTERS AND SERVED 4,977 LOCAL PEOPLE WITH CANCER AND THEIR FAMILIES.
CANCER SERVICES PROVIDES EDUCATION IN A VARIETY OF WAYS TO MULTIPLE GROUPS. THE SURVIVOR ACADEMY OFFERS ONLINE ACCESS, ON-DEMAND ACCESS AND IN-PERSON SUPPORT GROUPS AND CLASSES. THE CLASSES OFFER MONTHLY SESSIONS ON A WIDE VARIETY OF TOPICS PERTINENT TO PEOPLE WITH CANCER AND THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS. THESE INFORMATIONAL PROGRAMS INCLUDED TOPICS SUCH AS HEALTH INSURANCE LITERACY AND MINDFULNESS PRACTICE. ADDITIONALLY, THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED ONLINE AND IN-PERSON NUTRITION EDUCATION SESSIONS AS WELL AS PRIVATE CONSULTATIONS. IN 2023, STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS ATTENDED LOCAL HEALTH FAIRS AND MADE NUMEROUS COMMUNITY PRESENTATIONS ABOUT CANCER PREVENTION, EARLY DETECTION AND THE HELP AVAILABLE AT CANCER SERVICES.
