THE MONROE STREET NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER IS COMMITTED TO WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OUR NEIGHBORS TO PROMOTE SELF-SUFFICIENCY, STRENGHTEN AND ENRICH FAMILIES AND DEVELOP COMMUNITY OWNERSHIP.

Part 3 - Line 4a

FREEDOM SCHOOL: A SUMMER READING PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN AGES FIVE THROUGH TWELVE. YOUNG SCHOLARS SPENT SIX WEEKS PARTICIPATING IN READING CLASSES TAUGHT BY LOCAL COLLEGE STUDENTS. WE PARTNERED WITH LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS TO PROVIDE ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES IN ADDITION TO READING. CHILDREN ENJOYED GARDENING, SINGING, DANCING, ACTING, TAI CHI, CARDIO, DRUMMING, SWIMMING, COOKING, ART, AND LOCAL FIELD TRIPS. KIDS ALSO RECEIVED A HEALTHY BREAKFAST AND A HEALTHY LUNCH AT NO COST EACH DAY.


PUBLIC SUPPORT: OUR BRIDGE PROGRAM OFFERS A FOOD PANTRY, CLOTHING CLOSET, HOUSEHOLD ITEMS AND BIRTH CERTIFICATE ASSISTANCE TO AN AVERAGE OF 100 HOUSEHOLDS WEEKLY. THE BLUFF STREET VILLAGE PROJECT PROVIDES NEW, 400 SQUARE FOOT "TINY HOMES" TO LOW-INCOME HOUSEHOLDS, AND OFFERS A PATH TO HOME OWNERSHIP TO RESIDENTS, WHILE TRANSFORMING A BLOCK OF VACANT LOTS. THE TOLEDO TOOL LENDING LIBRARY, ADJACENT TO BLUFF STREET VILLAGE, HAS AN INVENTORY OF HUNDREDS OF TOOLS AND GARDENING IMPLEMENTS AVAILABLE FOR LOAN FOR A SMALL MEMBERSHIP FEE.
