THE GATHERING PLACE'S(TGP) COMMITMENT TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES ON THEIR CANCER JOURNEY (I.E. AT DIAGNOSIS, DURING TREATMENT, AND LIFE AFTER TREATMENT) BEGAN OVER TWENTY YEARS AGO. OVER THAT TIME, TGP HAS DEVELOPED AND IMPLEMENTED INNOVATIVE PROGRAMMING AND SERVICES THAT WORK TO BREAK DOWN THE ISOLATION AND LOWER THE STRESSES THAT COME WITH A CANCER DIAGNOSIS AND COMPLEMENTS THE SERVICES PROVIDED BY THEIR MEDICAL TEAM. THESE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES ADDRESS PROGRAM PARTICIPANT NEEDS FOR PSYCHOSOCIAL, NUTRITION, FITNESS, AND OTHER LIFE ENRICHING SUPPORT AND ARE UNIQUE SERVICE WHICH INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES FACING CANCER CANNOT FREELY ACCESS ELSEWHERE IN THE NORTHERN OHIO AREA.THE GATHERING PLACE'S ABILITY TO BE NIMBLE AND MEET THE NEEDS OF THE INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES HAS BEEN ON FULL DISPLAY IN 2020. ON MARCH 13TH 2020, TGP WAS FORCED TO SHUT OUR DOORS TO IN PERSON ACTIVITIES FOR THE PROTECTION OF OUR STAFF, VOLUNTEERS AND PARTICIPANTS. WITHIN 3 DAYS, THE AGENCY BEGAN TO OFFER ALL OF OUR SERVICES VIRTUALLY USING ZOOM, GOTOMEETING AND CONFERENCE CALLS. BY DOING THIS, THE AGENCY HAS BEEN ABLE TO CONTINUE TO PROVIDE ONE ON ONE AND GROUP SUPPORT ALONG WITH MEDITATION, ZUMBA, COOKING CLASSES, AND ALL OTHER PROGRAMMING.
