THE DOWNTOWN CANTON SPECIAL IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT COLLABORATES WITH THE CITY OF CANTON TO ASSIST DOWNTOWN BUSINESSES AND TO SEEK COMPANIES WHO WANT TO MAKE DOWNTOWN CANTON THEIR HOME. THE DOWNTOWN CANTON SPECIAL IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT (SID) PROVIDES PROGRAMMING TO PRESERVE THE ECONOMIC WELLBEING OF DOWNTOWN CANTON.

THE DOWNTOWN CANTON SPECIAL IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT (SID) PROVIDES PROGRAMMING TO PRESERVE THE ECONOMIC WELL BEING OF DOWNTOWN CANTON. THE SID IS DEDICATED TO PRESERVING AESTHETIC, ARCHITECTURAL, AND HISTORIC CHARACTER OF THE DOWNTOWN AREA. THE ORGANIZATION IS FUNDED BY SPECIAL ASSESSMENTS ON DOWNTOWN PROPERTY OWNERS LOCATED WITHIN THE DISTRICT. THE SID MANAGES THE DOWNTOWN AREA BY PROVIDING PROMOTION, SAFETY, AND CLEANLINESS. THERE ARE MANY PROMOTIONAL EVENTS THE SID PROMOTES SUCH AS FIRST FRIDAY, LIGHT UP DOWNTOWN, COLOR DOWNTOWN, AND ARTS DISTRICT EVENTS. DOWNTOWN SECURITY IS ORGANIZED AND MAINTAINED BY THE SID. SAFETY IS AN IMPORTANT KEY IN PROMOTING, NOT ONLY THE EVENTS IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA, BUT ALSO THE DAILY ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATED WITH DOING BUSINESS IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA. CLEANLINESS AND FACADE IMPROVEMENTS ARE ALSO MAINTAINED AND MONITORED BY THE SID. DOWNTOWN CANTON SPECIAL IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT ASSISTS IN THE ZONING OF THE STREETS AND BUILDINGS, PARKING AND THE INSTALLATION OF PARKING SIGNS, AND THE HANGING OF PLAQUES TO DENOTE THE ART AND HISTORICAL DISTRICTS.
