ACCOMPLISHMENTS: SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 1998, THE POLICE FOUNDATION HAS GRANTED OVER 10 MILLION DOLLARS TO FUND EQUIPMENT, TRAINING, AND OUTREACH PROGRAMS IN SUPPORT OF THE SAN DIEGO POLICE DEPARTMENT. EXAMPLES OF PROJECTS FUNDED IN THE LAST YEAR INCLUDE:EQUIPMENT, TRAINING AND OUTREACHTWO HANDHELD NARCOTICS ANALYZER THAT DETECTS TINY AMOUNTS OF DEADLY FENTANYL AND OTHER ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES TO PROTECT COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND ALSO OUR OFFICERS.GUN BUY BACK PROGRAM THAT ENCOURAGES CITIZENS TO TURN IN UNWANTED AND SOMETIMES ILLEGAL FIREARMS WITHOUT RISK OF PROSECUTION IN RETURN FOR GIFT CARDS IN ORDER TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF DEATHS AND INJURIES IN OUR COMMUNITY.GYM RENTAL FOR THE YOUTH BOXING PROGRAM AND SPORTS EQUIPMENT FOR THE GANG INTERVENTION PROGRAM.290 RIFLE-RESISTANT BULLET PROOF VESTS (CALLED PLATE CARRIERS), IMPROVING OFFICER SAFETY IN DANGEROUS SITUATIONS.SCHOLARSHIPS FOR TRAINING, EMPOWERING CURRENT AND FUTURE WOMEN IN BLUE, SO THAT SDPD CAN CONTINUE TO LEAD THE NATION IN PERCENTAGE OF FEMALE OFFICERS IN ITS RANKS.POLARIS OFF-ROAD VEHICLE TO HELP NORTHERN DIVISION BEACH PATROL NAVIGATE VAST SANDY TERRAIN, WHERE NORMAL PATROL VEHICLES CANNOT GET TO, AS THEY RESPOND TO DANGEROUS AND EMERGENCY SITUATIONS. WELLNESS SERVICE CANINE ABLE TO SENSE, DETECT, AND INTERRUPT OFFICERS IN THE MIDST OF PERSONAL STRESSFUL SITUATIONS. MUCH LIKE NARCOTICS OR BOMB DOGS, THESE DOGS CAN DETECT AND SMELL ANXIETY, SADNESS, ANGER, FEAR, AND STRESS. THEIR MERE PRESENCE HAS AN IMMEDIATE IMPACT ON THE MENTAL OUTLOOK OF INDIVIDUALS EXPERIENCING A MENTAL CRISIS. NARCOTICS DETECTION SERVICE CANINE, A CRITICAL TOOL IN DETECTING ILLEGAL CONTRABAND IN HIDDEN AND CONCEALED LOCATIONS. THESE CANINES ARE DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING PROBABLE CAUSE RESULTING IN SEARCH WARRANTS WHERE ILLEGAL ITEMS ARE RECOVERED.
