SAN DIEGO INDIAN AMERICAN SOCIETY (SDIAS) IS ABOUT GIVING BACK TO SAN DIEGO THROUGH EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS TO HIGH SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS IRRESPECTIVE OF ORIGIN, SPREADING MAHATMA GANDHI'S VALUES TO THE YOUNGER GENERATION AND SHARING INDIA'S RICH CULTURAL HERITAGE IN A HARMONIOUS MANNER.

MAHATMA GANDHI SCHOLARSHIP FOR COLLEGE BOUND AND COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS: RECOGNIZE OUTSTANDING SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN THE SAN DIEGO COUNTY AREA, IRRESPECTIVE OF NATIONAL ORIGIN AND TO FURTHER THEIR EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES. THE AMOUNT OF THE SCHOLARSHIP WILL BE DETERMINED ANNUALLY BASED UPON THE NUMBER OF AWARDS AND AVAILABLE FUNDS. STUDENTS MUST DEMONSTRATE COMMITMENT TO PEACE AND NONVIOLENCE BY WRITING A ONE PAGE TYPED ESSAY ON THE IMPORTANCE OF PEACE AND NON-VIOLENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY AND THE WORLD. THE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD WILL PROVIDE EACH SELECTED STUDENT WITH $1,000 ALONG WITH A US CONGRESSIONAL CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT. PROVIDE UP TO TWENTY SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED AT SAN DIEGO COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGES FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED IN CAREER TECHNICAL PROGRAMS THAT LEAD TO JOBS. THE SCHOLARSHIP WILL PROVIDE EACH SELECTED STUDENT AT $1,000/YEAR ALONG WITH A US CONGRESSIONAL CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT.


MAHATMA GANDHI SCHOLARSHIP FOR AVID STEM STUDENTS: PROVIDES UP TO EIGHT SCHOLARSHIPS FOR HIGH-SCHOOL SENIORS NOMINATED BY AVID SITE TEAMS AND AVID ELECTIVE TEACHERS WHO ARE STEM MAJORS (OFTEN THE STUDENTS WHO WILL BE THE FIRST IN THEIR FAMILIES TO ATTEND COLLEGE AND ARE FROM GROUPS TRADITIONALLY UNDERREPRESENTED IN HIGHER EDUCATION). THE SCHOLARSHIP WILL PROVIDE UP TO 4 YEARS OF SUPPORT FOR EACH SELECTED STUDENT AT $2,000/YEAR ALONG WITH A US CONGRESSIONAL CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT.


TRITON FOOD PANTRY: PROVIDE FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL SUPPORT TO THE TRITON FOOD PANTRY AT UC SAN DIEGO TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM OF FOOD INSECURITY AT COLLEGE CAMPUSES.
