ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE SEEKS TO PROMOTE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND INCLUSION FOR ALL MEMBERS THROUGH RECREATION, EDUCATION, AND CONSERVATION. USING INNOVATIVE TECHNIQUES, ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES TO MEET COMMUNITY NEEDS, BE INCLUSIVE, AND CONSERVE THE RESOURCES THEY CHERISH.

IN FY21, THE ORGANIZATION WAS ABLE TO CONSTRUCT TWO INCLUSIVE PLAYSETS. THE FIRST WAS THE COMPLETION OF AN INCLUSIVE PLAYSET IN CEDAR ISLAND (AT THE CEDAR ISLAND VOLUNTEER) THAT SERVES THE ENTIRE CEDAR ISLAND COMMUNITY. THIS COMMUNITY ONLY HAD ACCESS TO A PLAYSET THAT WAS 22.8 MILES AWAY IN SMYRNA, NC ANOTHER PROJECT COMPLETED BY ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE IN 2020. THE CEDAR ISLAND COMMUNITY IS HOME TO 235 RESIDENTS (PER US CENSUS DATA), INCLUDING EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN. THE CEDAR ISLAND VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT PLAYSET AND SWINGSET WAS CONSTRUCTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA. ADDITIONALLY, THE ORGANIZATION WAS ABLE TO EXPAND ITS REACH AT THE DAVIS VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT PLAYSET BY ADDING INCLUSIVE SWING SETS AND GROUND MATERIAL. ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE ALSO SUPPORTED THE ADAPTIVE SURF PROJECT OF WILMINGTON, NC TO CONSTRUCT AND DONATE A HANDICAP-ACCESSIBLE SURF BOARD FOR CHILDREN IN THE CARTERET AND NEW HANOVER COUNTY AREAS TO PARTICIPATE IN SURF LESSONS.


IN ALIGNMENT WITH THE MISSION OF ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE, THE SJF FISHING TOURNAMENT WAS DESIGNED TO ENCOURAGE RECREATION AND CONSERVATION IN ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL CATCH-AND-RELEASE FISHERIES IN NORTH CAROLINA: THE BULL RED DRUM FISHERY OF THE PAMLICO SOUND. IN ITS FOURTH YEAR, ATTENDANCE EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS. THE EVENT WAS ATTENDED BY OVER 1,500 PARTICIPANTS, AND THE TOURNAMENT HOSTED AN ESTIMATED 595 ANGLERS, 15% OF WHOM WERE CHILDREN. THE ORGANIZATION WAS ABLE TO HOST ARTISTS AND MUSICIANS FROM CEDAR ISLAND, MOREHEAD, BEAUFORT, NASHVILLE, RALEIGH/DURHAM, ATLANTA, NEW YORK, AND OTHER LOCATIONS TO BRING CULTURAL AWARENESS TO COMMUNITIES THAT TYPICALLY DO NOT HAVE THESE TYPES OF OPPORTUNITIES.
