ORGANIZATION'S PRIMARY EXEMPT PURPOSE IS TO IMPROVE MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT AND ITS ADMINISTRATION AND OPERATION THROUGH EDUCATION, COOPERATION AND HARMONY OF ACTION AMONG THE MUNICIPALITIES AND OTHER STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS. OML PROVIDES DISSEMINATION OF NECESSARY INFORMATION FOR MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENTS' OPERATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

THE OML PROVIDES MEMBER MUNICIPALITIES WITH VARIOUS MEMBERSHIP SERVICES. SURVEYS ARE CONDUCTED ON A REGULAR SCHEDULE TO DETERMINE SALARIES AND WAGES PAID TO ELECTED OFFICIALS AND SELECT APPOINTED OFFICIALS. SPECIAL SURVEYS ARE CONDUCTED UPON THE REQUEST OF MEMBERS RELATIVE TO A VARIETY OF PRACTICES OF MUNICIPALITIES IN BOTH ADMINISTRATIVE MATTERS AND OPERATIONAL MATTERS. THE OML PROVIDES UPON REQUEST SAMPLE ORDINANCES AND "HOW TO" PAMPHLETS, INFORMATIONAL PAMPHLETS ON MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND NEWSLETTERS ON CURRENT EVENTS. THE OML ALSO PROVIDES A CLASSIFIED AD SERVICE AT NO CHARGE TO MEMBERS.


LEGAL ADVOCACY PROGRAMINSURANCE AND WORKERS COMP SPONSORSHIP POOLS


OML SPONSORS AND CONDUCTS EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS ON A REGULAR SCHEDULE WHICH INCLUDE MAYORS COURT TRAINING, MUNICIPAL INCOME TAX ADMINISTRATION, AND NEWLY ELECTED COUNCIL MEMBERS SEMINARS. WORKSHOPS ARE ALSO PRESENTED ON ETHICS, PLANNING AND ZONING, MUNICIPAL FINANCE, AND PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT.


"CITIES & VILLAGES" IS ONE OF THE PRIMARY PUBLICATIONS OF THE OHIO MUNICIPAL LEAGUE. BI-MONTHLY ISSUES ARE SENT TO VARIOUS ELECTED AND APPOINTED OFFICIALS OF MEMBER MUNICIPALITIES. THE MAGAZINE CONTAINS EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES AND CURRENT TOPICS REGARDING MUNICIPALITIES. OTHER MAJOR PUBLICATIONS INCLUDE 1) "MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT IN OHIO," AN EXTENSIVE HANDBOOK ON POWERS AND DUTIES OF MUNICIPAL OFFICIALS, MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT FINANCE AND GENERAL OPERATIONS WHICH IS UPDATED ANNUALLY TO REFLECT CHANGES IN THE LAW. 2) "MUNICIPAL CHARTERS IN OHIO: A SOURCEBOOK" IS A GUIDE TO ADOPTING A MUNICIPAL CHARTER PURSUANT TO THE OHIO CONSTITUTION WHICH IS UPDATED ANNUALLY. IN ADDITION, A DIRECTORY OF MUNICIPAL OFFICIALS IS PUBLISHED ON A REGULAR SCHEDULE.
