RESEARCH AND SUPPORT: THE NEVADA CHAPTER OF PARALYZED VETERANS OF AMERICA WILL USE OUR UNIQUE EXPERTISE TO ENSURE THE QUALITY HEALTHCARE, EXPAND OPPORTUNITIES AND ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR VETERANS AND ALL PEOPLE WITH SPINAL CORD INJURY AND DISEASE. WE ACCOMPLISH THIS THROUGH VA LIAISON SERVICES. NEVADA PVA SUPPORTS RESEARCH BY OUTSIDE ORGANIZATIONS AND PARTNERS WHO ARE SEEKING TREATMENTS FOR SCI AND CURES FOR SPINAL DISEASE.
OUTREACH AND EDUCATION: WE HAVE A BI-MONTHLY NEWSLETTER AND BI-MONTHLY E-NEWS UPDATES THESE ARE SENT OUT TO OUR MEMBERS, FELLOW CHAPTERS, AND SPINAL CORD CLINICS. WE ALSO HAVE SOCIAL MEDIA (FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM, TWITTER AND YOU TUBE), WHICH WE USE FOR OUTREACH AND EDUCATION. WE ALSO PROVIDE SUPPORT TO VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES AS WELL AS OUR SPINAL CORD NURSES AND SOCIAL WORKER AT BOTH HOSPITALS, THROUGH OUR EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS. NEVADA PVA PARTICIPATES IN NUMEROUS COMMUNITY OUTREACH EVENTS INCLUDING THE VETERANS SERVICE FAIR AND VETERANS HEALTH FAIRS.
SPORTS, RECREATION AND WELLNESS PROGRAMS: NEVADA PVAS FOCUS IS ON THE HEALTH AND WELLNESS OF VETERANS WITH SPINAL CORD INJURY (SCI). OVER THE YEARS NEVADA PVA HAS BECOME THE LEADING PROVIDER OF SPORTS, RECREATION AND WELLNESS PROGRAMS FOR VETERANS WITH SCI. OUR PROGRAM INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING SERVICES: (1) STEP OUTSIDE: (2) ADOPT A- VET: (3) SPORTS (FOR PHYSICAL STABILITY) AND (4) PARALYMPIC CHILDRENS SPORTS ACTIVITY CLINICS. STEP OUTSIDE ENABLES THE VETERANS TO GET OUT OF THEIR HOME AND TAKE PART IN THEIR COMMUNITY. ADOPT A- VET PROVIDES FOR THE BASIC NEEDS FOR VETERANS. DURING THE PANDEMIC, NEVADA PARALYZED VETERANS OF AMERICA DELIVERED FOOD AND HYGIENE KITS TO THE HOMES OF 130 VETERANS EACH MONTH. THROUGH SPORTS WE OFFER BOWLING, TRAPSHOOT AND FISHING OUTINGS TO HELP ENHANCE MENTAL AND PHYSICAL STABILITY.
