Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
WOODLAND POND OPERATES A CONTINUING CARE RETIREMENT COMMUNITY, WOODLAND POND AT NEW PALTZ, WHICH CONSISTS OF 201 INDEPENDENT LIVING UNITS AND 100 HEALTH CARE UNITS. WOODLAND POND ALSO PROVIDES OUTPATIENT PHYSICAL AND OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY SERVICES. WOODLAND POND HAS EARNED A REPUTATION FOR ITS ABILITY TO REHABILITATE ITS SKILLED NURSING RESIDENTS QUICKLY AND COMPREHENSIVELY. AS A NEW YORK STATE NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT PROVIDES RESIDENTIAL LONG-TERM CARE TO SENIORS, WOODLAND POND, INC. RELIES HEAVILY ON CENSUS (TOTAL RESIDENT HEADCOUNT) TO ENSURE FINANCIAL VIABILITY. THOUGH WOODLAND POND ACHIEVED AND HAS MAINTAINED STABLE OCCUPANCY FOR MANY YEARS, THE EFFECTS OF THE 2020-2021 PANDEMIC ON CENSUS HAVE BEEN UNAVOIDABLE. THE REASONS FOR THIS ARE TWO-FOLD. FIRST, DESPITE WOODLAND POND HAVING EXPERIENCED NO SERIOUS RESIDENT OR STAFF ILLNESS OR DEATH DUE TO COVID, THERE HAD BEEN A GREAT HESITANCY, ESPECIALLY IN NEW YORK STATE, FOR PEOPLE TO MOVE INTO A LONG-TERM CONGREGATE SETTING. MANY LONG-TERM CARE FACILITIES IN THE STATE EXPERIENCED DEVASTATING OUTBREAKS AND MANY DEATHS. THE PUBLIC HAD EXPRESSED FEAR OF THE RESIDENTIAL LONG-TERM CARE INDUSTRY IN THE FACE OF THE ONGOING PANDEMIC, AND WOODLAND POND PREVIOUSLY HAD NOT BEEN SPARED.FORTUNATELY, DURING 2021 AND 2020, WOODLAND POND WAS ABLE TO SECURE AND HAVE FORGIVEN $3,363,203 OF PPP LOANS, AND AN ADDITIONAL $778,121 IN STIMULUS FUNDING. CENSUS IMPACTS OF COVID TURNED AROUND DRAMATICALLY IN THE LATTER PART OF 2021. WOODLAND POND ENDED THE YEAR 2021 WITH THE HIGHEST AMOUNT OF ENTRANCE FEES EVER. OUR CENSUS NUMBERS CLIMBED IN THE HEALTH CENTER AS WELL. MUCH OF THIS WAS LIKELY DUE TO THE FACT THAT WOODLAND POND HANDLED THE COVID PANDEMIC IN SUCH A POSITIVE PROACTIVE MANNER THAT KEPT RESIDENTS AS SAFE AND HEALTHY AS POSSIBLE. WOODLAND POND ENDED 2021 IN A STRONG CASH POSITION, EVEN EXCEEDING OUR DCOH COVENANT BY 30 DAYS. WAITING LISTS IN ALL AREAS OF THE COMMUNITY HAVE CONTINUED TO GROW. PERSISTENT CHALLENGES REMAIN FROM A STAFFING/WAGE PRESSURE PERSPECTIVE AND ARE LIKELY TO REMAIN FOR A NUMBER OF FISCAL QUARTERS OR YEARS.
