HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES PROGRAMS: LA PLAZA OFFERS HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES THAT TARGET AND MEET THE SPECIFIC NEEDS OF THE LATINO COMMUNITY. THIS INCLUDES, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO, DENTAL, WIC, IMMUNIZATION CLINICS, EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE, JOB COUNSELING, FOOD PANTRY, AND HOLIDAY ASSISTANCE. THESE PROGRAMS SERVED 3,000 INDIVIDUALS IN THE 2021 CALENDAR YEAR.
EDUCATION PROGRAMS: LA PLAZA'S TU FUTURO PROGRAM IS AN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM DEDICATED TO ENCOURAGING AND SUPPORTING LATINO YOUTH TO PURSUE A POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION. THIS IS ACHIEVED THROUGH A SERIES OF BILINGUAL PRESENTATIONS, WORKSHOPS, INDIVIDUAL CONSULTATIONS, AND COLLEGE VISITS. STUDENTS ARE PROVIDED INFORMATION ABOUT THE COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS, FINANCIAL AID, AND SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS. THE PROGRAM ALSO WORKS WITH PARENTS TO HELP GIVE THEM THE TOOLS TO CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR CHILD'S EDUCATION. THESE PROGRAMS SERVED 70 STUDENTS IN THE 2021 CALENDAR YEAR.
YOUTH PROGRAMS: LA PLAZA OFFERS THE SUMMER DISCOVERY AND LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE FOR LATINO YOUTH PROGRAMS. THE SUMMER DISCOVERY PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO ENRICH THE LIVES OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN THROUGH A FIVE-WEEK EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL EXPERIENCE. THESE ACTIVITIES INCLUDE READING AND MATH, ARTS AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION, LEADERSHIP AND TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT, FIELD TRIPS, AND COMMUNITY SERVICE LEARNING. THE LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE FOR LATINO YOUTH IS A FIVE-WEEK SUMMER LEADERSHIP PROGRAM TO HELP HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS GAIN THE SKILLS NECESSARY TO BE BETTER PREPARED FOR COLLEGE, CAREER, AND LIFE. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH MATH AND ENGLISH ENRICHMENT, LEADERSHIP PROJECTS, CAREER AND COLLEGE EXPLORATION, PHYSICAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION, FIELD TRIPS, COMMUNITY SERVICE, AND THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY.
