COASTAL LEADERSHIP ACADEMY IS A PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL THAT ENGAGES STUDENTS IN AUTHENTIC PROJECT-BASED LEARNING THAT WILL IMPROVE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT, CRITICAL AND CREATIVE THINKING, AND AWARNESS OF THEIR LEADERSHIP ROLES IN OUR COMMUNITY AND ENVIRONMENT.
CLA IS A SMALL CHARTER SCHOOL WHOSE FOCUS IS TO BUILD NEW LEADERS BY USING PROJECT-BASED LEARNING WHICH STRENGTHENS STUDENTS' ABILITY TO PROVIDE CREATIVE ANSWERS TO REAL WORLD PROBLEMS. PROJECT-BASED LEARNING IS A TEACHING METHOD IN WHICH STUDENTS GAIN KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS BY WORKING FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME TO INVESTIGATE AND RESPOND TO AUTHENTIC, ENGAGING, AND COMPLEX QUESTIONS, PROBLEMS, OR CHALLENGES. PROJECT-BASED LESSONS ARE NOT STAND-ALONE BY SUBJECT BUT ON THE CONTRARY COMBINE WRITING, RESEARCHING, MATH, ARTS, AND SCIENCE TO USE A WHOLISTIC APPROACH TO SOLVING THE PROBLEM AT HAND.
TO BUILD LEADERS YOU MUST CREATE SERVERS. CLA REQUIRES COMMUNITY SERVICE FROM EVERY STUDENT AS A PART OF ITS CHARTER IN ORDER TO GRADUATE. CLA BELIEVES THAT SERVING THE COMMUNITY'S NEEDS IS HOW LEADERS ARE FOUNDED IN THEIR COMMUNITY. TO SERVE THE COMMUNITY THROUGH LEADERSHIP YOU MUST KNOW YOUR COMMUNITY.
