MLOV HELPS BUILD POWER AMONG OUR COMMUNITY TO CHANGE SYSTEMIC INEQUALITIES BY ORGANIZING AND ADVOCATING

THE YOUTH ACTION TEAM (YAT) IS A YOUTH-LED PROGRAM WHICH ADVOCATES AND ORGANIZES TO REDUCE EDUCATION DISPARITIES EXPERIENCED BY ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER (ELL) STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES. MLOV HOSTS OUT-OF SCHOOL-TIME CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMING FOR IMMIGRANT YOUTH DUE TO OUR UNIQUE ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP STRUCTURE AND EXPERTISE WITH OUR COMMUNITY.


IN RESPONSE TO THE COVID-19 AND THE ONSET OF THE PANDEMIC, MLOV EFFECTIVELY DISSEMINATED PUBLIC HEALTH INFORMATION AND PROVIDED SUPPORT TO COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO AMELIORATE EFFECTS OF THE PANDEMIC. OVER 300 OF OUR MEMBERS RECEIVED WEEKLY PUBLIC HEALTH UPDATES THROUGH OUTREACH. ADDITIONALLY, MLOV FACILITATED THE DISTRIBUTION OF FOOD, MEALS, AND OTHER BASIC NEEDS.


THE EARLY CHILDCARE PROGRAM WORKS TO STRENGTHEN THE ECONOMIC MOBILITY AND POWER OF SINGLE MOTHERS AND FAMILIES BY RE-ENVISIONING THE CHILDCARE SYSTEM WITHIN IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEE COMMUNITIES. MLOV SEEKS TO BUILD ROBUST, COMMUNITY-LED CHILDCARE AND EARLY EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN OF IMMIGRANTS AND REFUGEES ACROSS ALL EIGHT (8) WARDS. MLOV HAS BUILT AND NURTURED TWO (2) SPANISH-SPEAKING NEIGHBORHOOD CHILDCARE PODS WHILE GATHERING PIVOTAL DATA ON AND PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR THEIR COLLECTIVE NEEDS. OUR MEMBERS' VOICES ARE CENTRAL TO THE PROGRAMMING AND RESOURCES INTRODUCED WITHIN THE PODS.
