Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
STAY OR GO: THIS PROGRAM INVOLVES THE COLLECTION, COORDINATION, AND DISTRIBUTION OF PET FOOD ACROSS A VARIETY OF PLATFORMS. WE HAVE ENGAGED LOCAL BUSINESS PARTNERS TO ESTABLISH PET FOOD DONATION LOCATIONS THAT COLLECT FOOD ON OUR BEHALF ON A CONTINUING BASIS. IN ADDITION, WE COLLECT PRIVATE SOURCE DONATIONS AT OUR WAREHOUSE. THIS FOOD IS DISTRIBUTED TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH LOCAL FOOD BANKS, PANTRIES, AND AGENCIES. DURING 2021, WE HAD ONE FULL-TIME OPERATIONS MANAGER, ONE PART-TIME WAREHOUSE MANAGER, AND ONE PART-TIME COMMUNITY OUTREACH COORDINATOR. DF2FM RECEIVED DONATED ACCOUNTING AND OTHER PROFESSIONAL SERVICES OF $9,444 AND DISCOUNTED RENT OF $8,676.
HOME, NOT ALONE: THE MISSION OF THE "HOME, NOT ALONE" PROGRAM IS TO PROVIDE FREE PET FOOD TO LOW-INCOME PET OWNERS THROUGH SENIOR CENTERS. OFTEN, SENIOR PET OWNERS ARE ON EXTREMELY LIMITED INCOMES, INCLUDING MEDICAID, VA ASSISTANCE, OR HIGHLY RESTRICTED SOCIAL SECURITY INCOME. THESE SENIORS ARE OFTEN UNABLE TO DRIVE TO GET PET FOOD THEMSELVES. PET-OWNING SENIORS OFTEN TAKE FOOD FROM THEIR OWN TABLES TO FEED THEIR COMPANION ANIMALS. MANY TIMES THE ANIMALS THESE SENIORS KEEP ARE THE ONLY "FAMILY" THEY SEE ON A REGULAR BASIS, THEIR ONLY REAL COMPANIONS, AND REMINDERS OF THE INDEPENDENT LIVES AND HOMES THEY ONCE ENJOYED. THESE PETS PROVIDE NOT ONLY COMPANIONSHIP TO THESE SENIORS BUT ALSO A SENSE OF PURPOSE AND A FEELING OF BEING NEEDED. THROUGH "HOME, NOT ALONE," DF2FM PROVIDES FREE, PRE-PORTIONED PET FOOD TO QUALIFIED SENIORS AT PARTICIPATING SENIOR CENTERS ON A REGULAR SCHEDULE. WE WORK WITH SENIOR CENTER DIRECTORS TO DETERMINE DELIVERY SCHEDULES. IN 2021, DF2FM PROVIDED >191,000 MEALS FOR SENIOR PET OWNERS
MAVERICK FUND: NAMED IN HONOR OF MAVERICK CHIARAMONTE, BELOVED BOY OF DF2FM SUPPORTERS AND VOLUNTEERS JOE AND PATTI CHIARAMONTE, THE MAVERICK FUND IS A DESIGNATED FUND SPECIFICALLY TO HELP INDIVIDUAL PET-OWNING HOUSEHOLDS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED CATASTROPHIC EVENTS SUCH AS HOUSE FIRE, TORNADO DAMAGE, ETC. WHICH HAVE LEFT THE PET OWNER WITHOUT NEEDED RESOURCES TO PROPERLY CARE FOR PETS. THE MAVERICK FUND IS FUNDED BY DESIGNATED DONATIONS TO DF2FM. DF2FM WORKS WITH A 3RD-PARTY EMERGENCY RESPONSE AGENCY TO IDENTIFY AND SUPPORT PET OWNERS WHO QUALIFY FOR ASSISTANCE. GENERAL INQUIRIES ARE NOT ACCEPTED. EXAMPLES OF SERVICES PROVIDED BY THE MAVERICK FUND INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: LEASHES AND CRATES TO HELP CONTAIN ANIMALS WHO HAVE BEEN DISPLACED, PET FOOD, AND BOWLS SO PET OWNERS CAN FEED DISPLACED PETS, ASSISTANCE WITH VETERINARY CARE FOR ANIMAL WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED CATASTROPHIC EVENTS AND NEED ATTENTION (I.E., THEY MAY HAVE BEEN BURNED IN A HOUSE FIRE OR INHALED SMOKE), ASSISTANCE WITH BOARDING FOR DISPLACED ANIMALS WHILE THE FAMILY HOME IS BEING REPAIRED.
