CAMPAIGN AGAINST RACISM(CAR): THE CAR IS A NETWORK OF 16 ACTIVE CHAPTERS IN 10 DIFFERENT COUNTRIES. EACH CHAPTER DECLARES A STRATEGIC GOAL FOR THEIR DIRECT COMMUNITY AND COMMITS TO BE A PART OF THE COLLECTIVE CAMPAIGN WITH SUPPORT FROM THE CAR ORGANIZERS, COACHES AND THE CAMPAIGN COORDINATION COMMITTEE. CHAPTERS ENGAGE TOGETHER SHARING SUCCESS STORIES AND CHALLENGES, PARTICIPATING IN COMMUNITY ORGANIZING TRAINING, AND BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH ORGANIZERS FROM AROUND THE WORLD. TO DATE,THE CAMPAIGN HAS AT LEAST 2000 PEOPLE ON ITS LISTSERV AND SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS. CAR CHAPTERS AND MEMBERS ALSO ORGANIZE IN SOLIDARITY ACROSS COMMON THEMES THROUGH WORKING GROUPS. IN MARCH 2023 THE HAITI CHAPTER AND WORKING GROUP WORKED TOGETHER WITH PARTNERS TO ORGANIZE THE GLOBAL TRIAL ON ANTI BLACKNESS AND THE MIGRATION INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX . IN JUNE THE HAITI WORKING GROUP JOINED THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS CHICAGO (UIC) SOCIAL JUSTICE INITIATIVE AND THE HAITIAN BRIDGE ALLIANCE IN ORGANIZING A SESSION TITLED ALL EYES ON HAITI AND COLLABORATED ON A RESOURCE GUIDE AND LAUNCHED A MUTUAL AID CAMPAIGN TO BENEFIT HAITIAN COMMUNITIES. ON THE 1ST OF JUNE CAR PARTNERED WITH THE MOVEMENT FOR BLACK LIVES AND BLACK WOMEN POLICY LAB IN HOSTING A 2HR SAFE AND STRATEGIC SPACE FOR BLACK LEADERS IN THE CONTEXT OF THE 2ND SESSION OF THE PERMANENT FORUM ON PEOPLE OF AFRICAN DESCENT AND A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE HAITI CHAPTER READ OUT A STATEMENT IN SOLIDARITY WITH HAITIAN COMMUNITY CO CREATED BY THE HAITI CHAPTER AND WORKING GROUP. IN SEPTEMBER CAR ALSO SUPPORTED A ROUND TABLE ON ANTI BLACKNESS AND HAITI AT THE SOCIALISM CONFERENCE IN CHICAGO. IN SEPTEMBER ONE OF THE CAR ORGANIZERS ATTENDED THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE FOR THE COUNCIL ON BLACK HEALTH WHICH IS CONVENING DR CAMARA JONES' ANTI RACISM COLLABORATIVE WHERE CAR IS LEADING THE GLOBAL MATTERS OF THE NATIONAL CAMPAIGN AGAINST RACISM. IN OCTOBER THE NORTH WEST NEW MEXICO CHAPTER ORGANIZED AN IN PERSON SYMPOSIUM ON SETTLER COLONIALISM , MAKING LOCAL AND GLOBAL CONNECTIONS ON THE HEALTH OF INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES IN SETTLER COLONIAL CONTEXTS.
SOCIAL MEDICINE COURSE: IN 2023, EQUALHEALTH CONDUCTED SOCIAL MEDICINE EDUCATION AND TRAINING COURSES FOR FIFTY-TWO (52) STUDENTS, PRIMARILY FROM MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES IN HAITI, UGANDA, AND MINNESOTA. THIS TRANSNATIONAL PROGRAM EMPLOYS A TRANSFORMATIVE EDUCATION MODEL DESIGNED TO EQUIP THE NEXT GENERATION OF HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS WITH THE TOOLS AND KNOWLEDGE NECESSARY TO ADDRESS HEALTH INEQUITIES AND POWER STRUCTURES, AND TO EFFECTIVELY LEAD INTERVENTIONS TAILORED TO LOCAL CONTEXTS. THE CURRICULUM ENCOMPASSES SUBJECTS SUCH AS SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH, COLONIALISM, AND NARRATIVE MEDICINE. THE COURSE WAS DELIVERED IN A HYBRID FORMAT, COMPRISING BOTH IN-PERSON AND ONLINE SESSIONS. IT IS LED AND IMPLEMENTED BY EQUALHEALTH STAFF FROM DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS, POSSESSING EXTENSIVE FIELD EXPERIENCE, IN ADDITION TO THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF INTERNATIONAL EXPERTS, PROFESSORS, AND RESEARCHERS.
MEDICAL EDUCATION FELLOWSHIP AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM:THE FELLOWSHIP AIMS TO SUPPORT AND MENTOR VISIONARY HEALTH PROFESSIONALS FROM UGANDA, HAITI AND THE UNITED STATES IN THEIR CAREER DEVELOPMENT, WHILE PREPARING THEM TO BE EFFECTIVE LEADERS IN THE FIELD OF MEDICAL EDUCATION AND TO TACKLE CRITICAL SOCIAL, ECONOMIC, AND POLITICAL FACTORS LINKED TO ILLNESS AND HEALING. OUR EXPANDED VISION FOR THE FELLOWSHIP TRULY OPERATIONALIZES OUR LONG-STATED GOAL OF ENSURING GLOBAL LEADERSHIP FOR THE GLOBAL HEALTH EQUITY MOVEMENT AND THE ORGANIZATION ITSELF.
