TO PROVIDE PRENATAL, LABOR AND POST-NATAL SUPPORT FOR BIRTHING PEOPLE IN CENTRAL TEXAS THROUGH ON-CALL HOSPITAL AND DIRECT COMMUNITY REFERRAL WORK.

GALS DOULA PROGRAM: GALS BIRTH PROGRAMS MATCH LOW-INCOME FAMILIES WITH DOULAS, OR BIRTH WORKERS, TO PROVIDE PRENATAL, BIRTH AND POSTPARTUM SUPPORT IN ORDER TO IMPROVE BIRTH OUTCOMES AND ENSURE NO ONE BIRTHS ALONE. THESE SERVICES INCLUDE INFORMATIONAL, EMOTIONAL, AND PHYSICAL (NON-MEDICAL) SUPPORT TO FAMILIES THROUGH FOUR SUB-PROGRAMS: PRENATAL SUPPORT WHICH INCLUDES 2-4 PRENATAL VISITS, CONTINUOUS BIRTH SUPPORT, AND TWO OR MORE POSTPARTUM VISITS; ON-CALL SUPPORT WHICH BEGINS WHEN A FAMILY IS IN LABOR; POSTPARTUM SUPPORT WITH SERVICES BEGINNING AFTER A FAMILY HAS DELIVERED THE BABY; AND JAIL SUPPORT WHICH OFFERS PRENTAL AND POSTPARTUM SUPPORT FOR THOSE THAT ARE INCARCERATED IN THE COUNTY JAIL SYSTEM IN A GROUP SETTING, AS WELL AS ON-CALL BIRTH SUPPORT.


CHILDCARE FOR BLACK MAMAS PROGRAM: THIS PROGRAM OFFERS FREE, SHORT-TERM, CULTURALLY CONGRUENT, HIGH-QUALITY IN-HOME CHILDCARE FOR BLACK MAMAS IN CENTRAL TEXAS DURING THE PERINATAL PERIOD (PREGNANCY, BIRTH AND POSTPARTUM). THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO ADDRESS BARRIERS, SUCH AS CHILDCARE, THAT BLOCK ACCESS TO RECEIVING THE MEDICAL AND MENTAL NECESSARY FOR HAVING A SUCCESSFUL AND SAFE PREGNANCY, BIRTH, AND POSTPARTUM EXPERIENCE. THIS CHILDCARE IS OFFERED DURING DOCTOR OR MENTAL HEALTH APPOINTMENTS, FOR RESPITE CARE, AND DURING EMERGENCIES SUCH AS DURING CHILDBIRTH OR POSTPARTUM HOSPITAL ADMISSION. THIS IS A COLLABORATIVE PROGRAM WITH THE MATERNAL HEALTH EQUITY COLLABORATIVE, FUNDED FOR 3 YEARS BY MERCK FOR MOTHERS AND PRITZKER CHILDREN'S INITIATIVE, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH BLACK MAMAS ATX.
