MILK PROCESSING:FROM FEBRUARY 1, 2019 THROUGH JANUARY 31, 2022, MOTHERS' MILK BANK OF MISSISSIPPI DISPENSED A TOTAL OF 145,854.37 OUNCES OF DONOR MILK TO A COMBINATION OF NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNITS AND OUTPATIENTS.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND EDUCATION:DURING 2021, MOTHERS' MILK BANK OF MISSISSIPPI OPENED THREE NEW DEPOTS VIRTUALLY: IN INDIANOLA (DELTA BABY CAF), CLARKSDALE (FRIENDS OF FINN'S), BROOKHAVEN (KING'S DAUGHTERS HOSPITAL).THE BANK HELD A MONTH-LONG MILK DRIVE IN AUGUST 2021 AS A BREASTFEEDING MONTH CELEBRATION WITH A GOAL TO RAISE 5,000OZ OF MILK DONATIONS, WHICH WAS EXCEEDED.INCREASING AWARENESS OF HUMAN MILK DONATION RAISES AWARENESS OF THE IMPORTANCE OF BREASTFEEDING IN GENERAL, AND THEREFORE INCREASES BREASTFEEDING RATES AMONG THE GENERAL POPULATION. IN 2021, THE BANK WAS ABLE TO HOST THE ANNUAL MILK RUN 5K IN PERSON AND PLAN TO CONTINUE TO DO SO IN THE FUTURE AS WELL AS HAVING THE OPTION FOR VIRTUAL REGISTRATION. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO WAS ABLE TO PARTNER WITH FANNIN MART RESTAURANT THAT HOSTED A CHARITY LUNCH BENEFITING THE MILK BANK IN 2021. THE BANK ALSO PARTNERED WITH LOCAL KENDRA SCOTT STORE THAT HOSTED A "KENDRA GIVES BACK" EVENT WITH A PORTION OF PROCEEDS BENEFITING THE BANK'S MISSION. THANKS TO BOTH EVENTS, THESE ARE PARTNERSHIPS THAT THE BANK PLANS TO CONTINUE.
