AN IMPORTANT PROGRAM IS HIGHLAND BLESSING MEALS WHEREBY A MEAL IS PROVIDED EACH THURSDAY EVENING WITHOUT CHARGE TO RESIDENTS IN THE AREA. APPROXIMATELY 4,000 MEALS WERE SERVED DURING THE TWELVE MONTH PERIOD. THE LOCAL FOOD BANK PROVIDES THE MAJORITY OF THE FOOD AND VOLUNTEERS FROM THE PARTICIPANT CHURCHES ARE VERY INVOLVED. THE ONLY SALARIED PERSONS ARE THE COOK AND HER ASSISTANTS. BECAUSE OF COVID-19, THE MEALS WERE DISTRIBUTED WITH RESIDENTS PICKING THEM UP AT THE HIGHLAND CENTER ON TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS.
DURING THE FOURTH QUARTER OF 2019, REAL ESTATE WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE CORPORATION. PORTIONS OF THE BUILDING WILL BE LEASED TO OTHER NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS ALL WITH THE OBJECTIVE OF ACHIEVING THE MISSIONAL PURPOSE IN THE LIGHT OF THE VISION. GOING FORWARD, THIS WILL BE A MAJOR ADDITION TO THE ACTIVITIES AT THE HIGHLAND CENTER.
FIRST HOME BUYERS ASSISTANCE -- SEVERAL WORKSHOPS ARE HELD THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO QUALIFY CANDIDATES FOR THE CITY OF SHREVEPORT'S HOME BUYERS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM PARTICIPATION INITIATIVE (HAPPI).
OTHER PROGRAMS INCLUDE THE HAND UP LOAN; THE LITTLE CLOTHESLINE; MAGGIE LEE'S CLOSET; MEN'S CLOSET; VITA TAX PREPARATION; VARIOUS OTHER ACTIVITIES.
