THE MISSION OF COMMON GROUND IS TO IMPROVE WELLNESS THROUGHOUT OUR COMMUNITY BY EXPANDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR AFFORDABLE AND ACCESSIBLE COMPLEMENTARY HEALTH PRACTICES AT COMMUNITY-BASED LOCATIONS. OUR FOCUS IS ON EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICES SUCH AS YOGA, MEDITATION, ACUPUNCTURE, AND MASSAGE, A PORTION OF EVERY DOLLAR GENERATED FROM PAID PROGRAMMING SUPPORTS OUR EXTENSIVE OUTREACH SERVICES IN THE COMMUNITY.

YOGA AND MOVEMENT PROGRAM: IN 2021, COMMON GROUND WAS IN THE EARLY STAGES OF REOPENING. THERE WERE 1,956 REGISTRANTS FOR IN PERSON OR ZOOM YOGA CLASSES, SERIES, OR WORKSHOPS. THE FEES PAID RANGED FROM $5 TO $200 AND WERE BASED ON OUR CLIENTS ABILITY TO PAY.
ACUPUNCTURE PROGRAM: IN 2021, COMMUNITY MEMBERS BOOKED 1,001 APPOINTMENTS FOR ACUPUNCTURE. PARTICIPATION HOVERED AT APPROXIMATELY 80 APPOINTMENTS PER MONTH. FOR COMPARISON, COMMON GROUND SCHEDULED 2,075 APPOINTMENTS IN 2019 AND MONTHLY BOOKINGS RANGED FROM 150 TO 200. COVID SEVERELY CURTAILED OUR WORK IN THE COMMUNITY. COMMON GROUND WAS ABLE TO PROVIDE ACUPUNCTURE ON A LIMITED BASIS THROUGH PROGRAMMING OFFERED BY SENTARA STARR HILL CLINIC, REGION TEN COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD, THE WESTHAVEN COMMUNITY CLINIC, AND CRESCENT HALLS PUBLIC HOUSING.
MASSAGE PROGRAM: THIS SERVICE WAS THE LAST TO RESUME. 57 APPOINTMENTS WERE SCHEDULED IN 2021. FOR COMPARISON, 1,229 MASSAGE SESSIONS WERE SCHEDULED IN 2019. COMMON GROUND WAS ALSO ABLE TO PROVIDE MASSAGE ON A LIMITED BASIS THROUGH PROGRAMMING OFFERED BY COMMUNITY PARTNERS AT THE SENTARA STARR HILL CLINIC, REGION TEN COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD, THE WESTHAVEN COMMUNITY CLINIC, AND CRESCENT HALLS PUBLIC HOUSING.
