IN 2021 WE LAUNCHED THE NO MORE FAST FASHION LAB FOR COMMUNITY DESIGN IN ACCRA, GHANA, COLLECTING AND REPURPOSING TWO TONS OF TEXTILE WASTE THROUGH MATERIAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, LAYING THE FOUNDATION TO SUPPORT JOB TRAINING FOR LOCAL DESIGNERS AND COOPERATIVE BUSINESSES. IN ADDITION WE LAUNCHED A BEACH MONITORING TEAM TRACKING TEXTILE WASTE ALONG ACCRA'S BEACHES.
WE CONDUCTED EXTENSIVE RESEARCH INTO THE CAUSES, CONDITIONS AND EFFECTS OF HEAD CARRYING BALES OF SECONDHAND CLOTHING AND CLOTHING WASTE THROUGHOUT GHANA'S INFORMAL MARKETS. BUILDING ON THIS RESEARCH AND PREVIOUS SUPPORT PROVIDING FOOD AND SANITARY SUPPORT WITH THE KAYAYEI YOUTH ASSOCIATION, WE LAUNCHED AN APPRENTICESHIP PLACEMENT PROGRAM WITH WRAPAROUND SUPPORT FOR YOUNG WOMEN FORMERLY WORKING AS HEADCARRIERS, AND WE CONTINUED OUR SUPPORT OF THE KAYAYEI YOUTH ASSOCIATION THROUGH CAPACITY BUILDING AND DIRECT GRANTING.
TOGETHER WITH MEDIA PARTNERS WE SUPPORTED LOCAL STORYTELLING THROUGH OUR KAYAYEI PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP SERIES AND FILMMAKING PROJECTS TRACKING TEXTILE WASTE AND COMMUNITY ACTION IN SUPPORT OF GLOBAL ADVOCACY GOALS TO RAISE AWARENESS OF OVER CONSUMPTION AND OVERPRODUCTION IN SUPPORT OF VARIOUS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS, CHIEF AMONG THEM SDGS 12, 5, 11 AND 13. COLLECTIVELY OUR MEDIA PROJECTS HAVE BEEN VIEWED BY MILLIONS OF PEOPLE.
