SINCE OUR GRAND OPENING IN 2015, THE EDWARD M. KENNEDY INSTITUTE HAS OFFERED AWARD-WINNING, EXPERIENTIAL PROGRAMMING TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT OUR GOVERNMENT, TO ENCOURAGE CIVIL DISCOURSE, AND TO INSPIRE CIVIC ENGAGEMENT. IN RECENT YEARS, MORE THAN 20,000 STUDENTS AND ADULTS PARTICIPATED IN OUR INTERACTIVE PROGRAMS. IN 2021, AS A RESULT OF THE ONGOING GLOBAL PANDEMIC, WE CONTINUED TO OFFER THESE EXPERIENCES VIRTUALLY AND THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS AND ADULTS PARTICIPATED; AND IN THE FALL OF 2021, WE REOPENED TO IN-PERSON STUDENT GROUPS. WE ALSO CONTINUED TO DEVELOP THE PROGRAM NAMED "CIVIC CONVERSATIONS," ASSISTING 8TH THROUGH 12TH GRADE TEACHERS IN ACQUIRING THE SKILLS NECESSARY TO LEAD PRODUCTIVE CLASSROOM DISCUSSIONS ON DIFFICULT PUBLIC POLICY ISSUES. WE ALSO OPENED A NEW EXHIBIT CALLED 'STANDING UP FOR DEMOCRACY' FOCUSED ON HOW VOTING WORKS AND SENATOR KENNEDY'S EFFORTS ON THE IMPORTANT ISSUE OF VOTING RIGHTS IN THIS COUNTRY DURING HIS 47 YEAR CAREER IN THE SENATE.
