THE MOUNT VERNON PLACE CONSERVANCY INC.'S MISSION IS TO BE THE FULL-TIME SINGLE MANAGEMENT ENTITY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE HISTORIC RESTORATION, MAINTENANCE, MANAGEMENT, AND PROGRAMMING OF THE WASHINGTON MONUMENT AND THE PARKS SQUARES OF MOUNT VERNON PLACE.

THE CONSERVANCY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING THE WASHINGTON MONUMENT, AS WELL AS MAINTAINING THE FOUR PARKS SQUARES AROUND IT. VARIOUS CONTRACTED SERVICES ARE USED AT THE MONUMENT FOR INTERNET, SYSTEMS REPAIR, ETC. IN THE PARKS, THE CONSERVANCY HAS A CONTRACT WITH A PROFESSIONAL LANDSCAPER TO MAINTAIN THE GRASS, URNS, PLANTINGS AND HANGING BASKETS.


WITH THE WASHINGTON MONUMENT RESTORED, THE CONSERVANCY IS MOVING ON TO ITS NEXT PHASE OF WORK, THE RESTORATION OF THE SQUARES. THE CONSERVANCY CONTINUES TO WORK ON THE SCHEMATIC DESIGN FOR THE NORTH AND SOUTH SQUARES OF MOUNT VERNON PLACE, INCLUDING DESIGN DEVELOPMENT AND APPROVALS.


PROGRAM SALARIES AND BENEFITS INCLUDE PART-TIME STAFF AT THE WASHINGTON MONUMENT WHO GREET, EDUCATE AND INFORM, INTERPRET, AND DEAL WITH ALL OTHER ASPECTS OF GUEST VISITATION AT THE MONUMENT INCLUDING SELLING ADMISSION TICKETS AND MERCHANDISE. THE CONSERVANCY'S EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND ASSOCIATE MANAGEMENT SPEND A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF THEIR TIME PLANNING AND EXECUTING THE CONSERVANCY'S PARK PROGRAMMING, INCLUDING SUMMERS IN THE SQUARES, FLOWER MART, VARIOUS SMALL EVENTS, AND OTHER YEAR ROUND ACTIVITIES. THAT PROPORTION OF THEIR SALARIES IS ALLOCATED TO DIRECT PROGRAM EXPENSES.
