Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
OUR MISSION IS TO EMPOWER THE YOUTH AND PEOPLE OF MINDO, ECUADOR AND OTHER COMMUNITIES GLOBALLY THROUGH EDUCATION, HEALTH, DISASTER RELIEF PROGRAMS AND INTITIATIVES, IN AN EFFORT TO END POVERTY, PROVIDING HUMANITARIAN AND MEDICAL AID TO THOSE IN NEED.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
BRIDGE PROGRAM MINDO FUTURES PROVIDES FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS FROM UEFTE, WHO EXCEL ACADEMICALLY, BUT HAVE NO MEANS OR RESOURCES TO PURSUE A UNIVERSITY EDUCATION ONCE THEY GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL. EACH STUDENT NEEDED TO MOVE TO QUITO, ECUADOR TO ATTEND UNIVERSITIES OR TECHNICAL SCHOOLS IN THE CAPITAL CITY. MINDO FUTURES RENTED TWO HOUSES FOR THE 21 STUDENTS TO LIVE IN WHILE THEY ARE FULL-TIME UNVIERSITY STUDENTS IN THE PROGRAM. MINDO FUTURES HIRED A HOUSE MOTHER TO OVERSEE THE STUDENTS AND HANDLE ALL FUNDS NEEDED TO SUPPORT THEM AND ENROLL THE STUDENTS IN THE APPROPRIATE PREPARATORY PROGRAMS, UNIVERSITIES AND TECHNICAL SCHOOLS. BEYOND THEIR FORMAL EDUCATION, MINDO FUTURES ENCOURAGES THE STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE EVERYDAY ACTIVITIES OF RUNNING A HOUSEHOLD. THESE INCLUDED, BUT WERE NOT LIMITED TO LEARNING TO COOK, MAINTAINING A HOME, PAYING BILLS, AND GROCERY SHOPPING. THESE WERE ALL LIFE SKILLS THAT THE MAJORITY OF THE STUDENTS HAVE NOT LEARNED AT HOME. MINDO FUTURES HELPED EACH. STUDENT DEVELOP A RESUME AND CONFIDENCE TO BEGIN TO APPLY FOR JOBS OR INTERNSHIPS IN THEIR FIELD OF STUDY. THIS IS A PROGRAM DESIGNED TO PREPARE THEM FOR LIFE AS YOUNG PROFESSIONALS, WHO CAN, IN TURN, BEGIN TO BREAK THE CYCLE OF POVERTY IN WHICH THEY COME FROM.
MIRACLES PROGRAM MINDO FUTURES PROVIDED ASSISTANCE IN MANY DIFFERENT WAYS TO INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS ATTENDING LA UNIDAD EDUCATIVE FISCOMISIONAL TECNICO ECUADOR (UEFTE), A K-12 BOARDING SCHOOL IN MINDO, ECUADOR. HAVING PROVIDED 110 STUDENTS WITH SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDY AND LIVE IN THE SCHOOL, WHICH ALSO INCLUDES THE BENEFITS OF THE NUTRITION SUSTAINABILITY PROJECT WE BEGAN IN 2018, THAT PROVIDES THE STUDENTS WITH NUTRIENT FILLED MEALS ON A MORE REGULAR BASIS. MINDO FUTURES ALSO INVESTED ONCE AGAIN THIS YEAR IN YEAR 3 OF OUR 5 YEAR LITERATURE & ENGLISH LANGUAGE INITIATIVE. WE FEEL THIS IS A KEY EDUCATIONAL COMPONENT WE HAVE IMPLEMENTED THAT WILL PREPARE THE STUDENTS FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE WITH MORE POSSIBILITIES. LASTLY, THE COMPLETION OF THREE DIFFERENT MISSION TRIPS, WHICH PROVIDE MUCH NEEDED SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR THE STUDENTS AND TEACHERS ALIKE, AS WELL AS MANY INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS THAT HELP THE SCHOOL GIVE A MODERN DAY EDUCATION TO THE 700 STUDENTS WHO ATTEND UEFTE. THIS PROGRAM ALSO PROVIDES THE STUDENTS WITH MUCH NEEDED CLOTHING, SHOES,HYGIENE ITEMS, AND OTHER BASIC SUPPLIES WHICH MANY WOULD OTHERWISE NOT HAVE ON THEIR OWN SCHOOL.
HEALTH PROGRAM OUR HEALTH PROGRAM COMPLETED ITS 12TH ANNUAL MEDICAL MISSION TO MINDO AND ITS SURROUNDING AREAS IN 2019. WE WERE ABLE TO PROVIDE FULL MEDICAL ATTENTION TO APPROXIMATELY 4,821 PATIENTS OF ALL AGES , FROM INFANTS TO THE ELDERLY, AND ALL AGES IN BETWEEN. THIS AMOUNTED TO APPROXIMATELY 7,762 CLINICAL VISITS DURING OUR 2019 MEDICAL MISSION. THROUGH THE SUPPORT OF OUR COMMUNITY HERE AT HOME, WE HAVE BEEN ABLE, OVER THE YEARS TO GROW OUR TEAM OF MEDICAL PERSONNEL AND NON-MEDICAL VOLUNTEERS TO AN AVERAGE OF 100-120 PEOPLE PER MEDICAL MISSION. THIS HAS ALLOWED US TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF PATIENTS SEEN, THE BOUNDARIES OF OUR OUTREACH, AND THE COMPLEXITY AND SCOPE OF WORK WE ARE ABLE TO DO FROM A HEALTHCARE STANDPOINT. WITH A LARGE DIVERSITY OF SPECIALISTS, AND MORE SUPPORT HERE AT HOME, WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO IMPLEMENT A LARGE DENTAL EFFORT, HEARING AIDS, AND SPEECH AND PHYSICAL THERAPY COMPONENTS TO OUR ALREADY EXISTING SPECIALTIES OFFERED, LIKE PEDIATRICS, INTERNAL MEDICINE, CARDIOLOGY, GYNECOLOGY, GASTROENTEROLOGY, INFECTIOUS DISEASE, DERMATOLOGY, ORTHOPEDICS, MENTAL HEALTH, PODIATRY, ENT, RHEUMATOLOGY AND A FEW OTHERS. IN OUR 12TH YEAR OF DOING THIS ANNUAL MEDICAL MISSION TO THE REGION, WE HAVE BECOME THE SINGLEL ARGEST HEALTHCARE PROVIDER TO THE ENTIRE REGION. THIS IS ALL THANKS TO THE INCREDIBLE AND MUCH APPRECIATED SUPPORT OF SO MANY PEOPLE WHO MAKE IT POSSIBLE.
