FRIENDS OF MEALI INTERNATIONAL INC'S MISSION IS TO IMPROVE THE EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT FOR TANZANIAN CHILDREN TO HELP THEM ACHIEVE HIGHER EDUCATION LEVELS AS THE FOUNDATION FOR GREATER LIFE OPPORTUNITIES AND TO ENHANCE CROSS-CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN AMERICAN AND TANZANIAN CHILDREN.

CONTINUED CONSTRUCTION OF THE HOPE SCHOOL FOR GIRLS AND BOYS, A SPECIAL PROJECT OF OUR TANZANIAN DIRECTOR, A PRIVATE SCHOOL IN THE CITY OF ARUSHA, TANZANIA THAT WILL EVENTUALLY ACCOMMODATE BOTH PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL CHILDREN. THE FIRST KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS ARRIVED FEBRUARY 2020; ENROLLMENT IS NOW ABOUT 400 STUDENTS, PRE-K THROUGH 7.


TEACHER SUPPORT AT ALL THREE OF OUR RURAL PUBLIC PRIMARY SCHOOLS, AUGMENTING THE GOVERNMENT-PROVIDED TEACHING STAFF AND PAYING INCENTIVE BONUSES FOR ALL THE TEACHERS AT SCHOOLS THAT ACHIEVE OUTSTANDING RESULTS ON THE TANZANIAN NATIONAL EXAMINATIONS FOR STANDARD(GRADE)VII, WHICH HAS RESULTED IN A MUCH HIGHER PROPORTION OF STUDENTS QUALIFYING FOR SECONDARY SCHOOL. PROVIDED ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANCE, TRANSPORTATION AND MEALI SECURITY PERSON.


LUNCH & SCHOLARSHIP AID TO CHILDREN IN AND GRADUATES FROM ALL THREE OF OUR RURAL PUBLIC SCHOOOLS: MEALI; LOSIRWA; & OLDEANI. WE SUPPORT A TOTAL OF 2100 PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN (PRE-K-7), AND OVER THE PAST 9 YEARS HAVE SUBSIDIZED HIGHER EDUCATION FOR 720 STUDENTS. TWO OF THOSE ARE NOW IN UNIVERSITIES, ONE STUDYING MEDICINE AND THE OTHER STUDYING SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHING. EIGHTEEN ARE ENGAGED IN OR ARE ABOUT TO BEGIN STUDIES AT OTHER HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS TO PREPARE FOR CAREERS IN BUSINESS, MEDICINE, PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHING, ACCOUNTING, PROCUREMENT, WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT, AND SOCIAL WORK - CAREER PREPARATION THEY COULD NOT HAVE CONSIDERED WITHOUT OUR SUPPORT. FIVE ARE NOW ENROLLED AT ADVANCED SECONDARY HIGH SCHOOLS IN PREPARATION FOR ENTERING UNIVERSITIES IN 2023/2024.


ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENTS FOR ALL THREE OF THE RURAL PUBLIC PRIMARY SCHOOLS; MEALI, LOSIRWA, AND OLDEANI. MOST SIGNIFICANT WAS THE CONSTRUCTION OF ADDITIONAL CLASSROOMS AT LOSIRWA, WHICH HAS BEEN GROWING VERY RAPIDLY.
