Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
CRAFT HANDLED 422 INTAKES OF CATS AND KITTENS IN 2016 WITH AN AVERAGE STAY OF 179 DAYS. 126 CATS WERE CARRIED OVER FROM 2015 INTO 2016, NOT YET ADOPTABLE OR ADOPTED, OR PART OF THE GROUP OF "SPECIAL NEEDS" CATS THAT ARE VERY SENIOR OR HAVE MEDICAL ISSUES THAT MAKE THEM NOT EASILY PLACED. THESE CATS MAY REMAIN WITH CRAFT FOR THE REST OF THEIR NATURAL LIVES. SOME CATS AND MOST KITTENS ARE FOSTERED, WITH CRAFT PROVIDING ALL THE NECESSARY SUPPORT UNTIL THEY ARE ADOPTED. SOME CATS OR KITTENS MIGHT BE ADOPTED QUICKLY WHILE OTHERS COULD BE WITH CRAFT FOR YEARS.AS IS TYPICAL, ABOUT 90% OF THE ANIMALS WERE ABANDONED OR HAD NO KNOWN CAREGIVER, AND ABOUT 80% OF THOSE REQUIRE SPAY OR NEUTERING.CONTINUED TO HELP OTHER SMALL RESCUE GROUPS AND INDIVIDUALS THROUGHOUT CENTRAL AND EASTERN OREGON WHERE THERE ARE NO FACILITIES TO HELP CATS. WE WERE INVOLVED IN SEVERAL LARGE ABANDONMENT AND HOARDING SITUATIONS THROUGH REQUESTS FOR HELP FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT AND ANIMAL CONTROL. WE CONTINUE TO HELP CATS THROUGH REFERRALS FROM PROPERTY MANAGERS, GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, VETERINARIANS, 9-1-1 AND INDIVIDUALS.EVERY CAT IS EXAMINED BY A VETERINARIAN AND, AS NEEDED, IS ALTERED, VACCINATED, TREATED FOR PARASITES, INJURIES AND ILLNESSES, AND IS ID CHIPPED IF TAME. WHEN HEALTHY AND READY, THEY ARE MADE AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION THROUGH THE FACILITY OR AT OFF-SITE ADOPTION EVENTS. THOSE CATS THAT ARE NOT SOCIAL ARE PLACED ON FARMS OR IN SHOPS WHERE THEY ARE WANTED FOR RODENT CONTROL PURPOSES. CRAFT FEELS THERE IS A HOME FOR EVERY CAT, AND EUTHANASIA IS APPROPRIATE ONLY WHEN A CAT IS SO SEVERLY INJURED OR SICK AND IS SUFFERING THAT, IN THE OPINION OF VETERINARIANS, THERE IS NO OTHER HUMANE RECOURSE.CRAFT REMAINS ALL VOLUNTEER, WITH NO PAID STAFF, AND RELIES ON DONATIONS FROM THE PUBLIC AND GRANT WRITING TO KEEP OPERATING.
