IGNITE WORLDWIDE IS THE ANSWER TO ACHIEVING GENDER EQUITY IN STEM. WE WORK DIRECTLY WITH TEACHERS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY TO PROVIDE PROGRAMMING THAT PROMOTES STEM EDUCATION AND CAREER ADVANCEMENT FOR GIRLS AND NONBINARY YOUTH FROM HISTORICALLY MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES. THROUGH HANDS-ON EVENTS THAT CONNECT STUDENTS WITH ROLE MODELS WHO LIVE AND WORK IN THEIR COMMUNITIES, STUDENTS RECOGNIZE NEW POSSIBILITIES FOR THEIR FUTURES.

AN IGNITE SCHOOL CHAPTER WOULD INCLUDE: PANEL DISCUSSIONS, FIELD TRIPS, AND JOB SHADOWING. FURTHERMORE, EACH SCHOOL CHAPTER INCLUDES AN EDUCATOR, FINANCIAL AND VOLUNTEERS SUPPORTERS, THE BUILDING OF PEER SUPPORT, AND HOSTING IGNITE EVENTS FOR GIRLS. IGNITE HELD 76 EVENTS TO INTRODUCE STEM CAREERS TO THE PARTICIPATING GIRLS. SINCE 1999, IGNITE HAS EDUCATED AND EMPOWERED OVER 35,000 YOUNG WOMEN IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL GRADES TO PURSUE EDUCATION AND CAREERS IN STEM. IN THE SEATTLE SCHOOL DISTRICT ALONE, FEMALE PARTICIPATION IN TECHNOLOGY CLASSES SOARED FROM 10% TO 50% IMMEDIATELY AFTER GIRLS ATTENDED THEIR FIRST IGNITE EVENT.
