PLANTING FRUIT TREES IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES TO FEED PEOPLE, CREATE JOBS, AND BENEFIT THE ENVIRONMENT.

Part 3 - Line 4a

TREE PLANTING: WE DISTRIBUTED 32,009 QUALITY FRUIT TREES MAINLY TO SMALLHOLDER FARMERS IN 13 COUNTRIES. WE PURCHASE TREES FROM NURSERIES IN THE US OR LOCALLY THEN DONATE THEM. WE SCREEN REQUESTS FOR TREES BY CONSIDERING APPLICANTS' AGRICULTURAL KNOWLEDGE AND OTHER CRITERIA. WE MONITOR THE TREES AFTER THEY ARE PLANTED IN THE FIELD TO ENCOURAGE CARE AND SURVIVAL TO MATURITY. OUR OTHER PROGRAMS LISTED BELOW SUPPORT TREE PLANTING AND HELP TO MAXIMIZE ECONOMIC VALUE OF THE TREES.


OTHER PROGRAM SERVICE IS EDUCATION. WE CONDUCT TRAINING SEMINARS, PRODUCE VIDEOS FOR FARMERS ON ASPECTS OF TREE CARE, AND PRINT EDUCATIONAL BOOKS ABOUT TREES FOR YOUNG CHILDREN. OUR PROGRAMS INTEGRATE WELL TOGETHER INTENTIONALLY TO ENSURE THE FRUIT TREES SURVIVE AND THRIVE TO FRUITING MATURITY.


SCHOOL FEEDING: WE DISTRIBUTED OVER 266,000 MEALS TO SCHOOLCHILDREN IN HAITI AND JAMAICA. FOOD PRODUCTS ARE PRODUCED LOCALLY AND DERIVED MAINLY FROM BREADFRUIT. BREADFRUIT IS HIGHLY NUTRITIOUS AND THE FOOD PRODUCTS ARE TASTY. THIS PROGRAM SERVES OVER 50 SCHOOLS AND OVER 8,000 CHILDREN. STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND PARENTS HAVE THANKED US. THIS PROGRAM ENCOURAGES SMALL AGRIBUSINESSES WHICH IN TURN PROVIDE ECONOMIC BENEFIT TO FARMERS.
